Lesson Plan for

Science 7, Quarter 1
Acids, Bases, and the pH Scale
August 30, 2022
I. Objectives  To define acids and bases;
 To differentiate between acids and bases using their properties.
 To conduct experiments to determine the acidity and basicity of a
substance.
A. Content Standards The properties of substances that distinguish them from mixtures.
B. Performance Investigate the properties of mixtures of varying concentrations using
Standards available materials in the community for specific purposes.
C. Learning  Distinguish mixtures from substances based on a set of properties.
Competencies

lesson or presenting a
new lesson

Have your ever bit a lemon? Have you ever dropped a wet bar
soap and found that it was hard to
pick up?
 If I have a baking soda and I’m going to pour the vinegar on it.
What do you think will happen?

Why is that so? Because baking soda is a base and vinegar is an acid.
B. Establishing the purpose To further more understand the acids and bases, today, we are going to explore
of the new lesson their properties and will do experiments to test some substances whether they
exhibit acids or bases properties.

C. Presenting How can you tell if it is an acid or base?

D. Discussing new Am I Acid or Base?

concepts and practicing Directions: Using the pH scale level, identify the following substances according
new skills #1. to there given pH scale level.

Substance pH level Acid or Base

Pure water 7 Neutral
Baking soda 9 Base
Orange juice 3 Acid
Milk 6.5 Acid
Banana 5.3 Acid
Egg 8 Base
Bleach 12 Base
Black coffee 5 Acid
Blood 8.1 Base
Saliva 6 Acid
E. Discussing new To prove these substances are acid or bases, let’s do an experiment. Using
concepts & practicing the litmus paper, each of your will put the paper in each provided substance
new skills #2. and using the same scale, see if there are any changes in the color and look
the resulted color in the scale. They can also test the texture of each
substance to conclude about their properties.
Substances:
1. Buko juice
2. Vinegar
3. Shampoo
4. Tap water
5. Bleach
6. Milk
7. Coffee

**wash their hands after testing the substances.

Ask the students about their conclusion.
F. Developing Mastery Activity. For each given properties of acids and base, students will clap twice if
(Leads to Formative it is a property of Acid and stomp twice if it is for Base.
Assessment) 1. Change blue litmus to red
2. Have a slippery feeling
3. Change red litmus to blue
4. Have a sour taste
5. Corrodes metals
G. Finding Practical What do you think are the uses of acids and bases in our everyday life?
Applications of
concepts and skills in
daily living
H. Making Generalizations What are acids?
& Abstractions about What are bases?
the lessons What is a substance that has no effect on indicator?
I. Evaluating Learning UNSCRAMBLE ME!
Directions: read the statements very carefully and unscramble the letters on
the next column to reveal the word.

DOCUMENTATION

I assigned three groups

for the conduct of
experiment. Each group
will be given chances
to experience that
process of identifying
acids and bases. This Is
also to minimize them
from overcrowding and
can have focus on what
they are doing.

Some of them tried to

have collaboration with
others through asking
questions and verifying
their findings. They
share what they have
observed by doing the
experiment.

Some tries to repeat the

experiment when they
have confusion with the
results.

I was able to create a learning

environment where students cooperate
and help themselves in the process of
acquiring knowledge, activated their
interests through involving them all
throughout, developing and expressing
ideas are entertained and clarified.

Fun in learning is also essential.

That is the main reason why we kept
them connected.
