TEA-STAINED SHEEP HAT

So I found some neat yarn on sale with no idea what I would do with it, but a need to buy it when I saw it. Sounds familiar eh? I needed a new, warmer winter hat and I thought Pooch would make a wonderfully warm hatband. I had enough Softee Chunky left over from the Anthro sweater and they were a perfect match. So viola! After a bit of swatching and experimenting the Tea-Stained Sheep Hat was born.

STITCHES USED:
Cast On (CO) Knit (K) Purl (P) Garter Stitch (G St) In-The-Round: ROW 1: K all, ROW 2: P all. Rep Row 1-2. Flat Knit: ROW 1: K all. Rep Row 1. Stockinette (St St) In-The-Round: ROW 1: K all. Rep Row 1. Flat Knit: ROW 1: K all. ROW 2: P all. Repeat Row 1-2. Bind Off (BO)

MATERIALS:
YARN: Hat Brim: Patons Pooch, Wooly. Hat Crown: Bernat Softee Chunky, Natural NEEDLES: #10/6mm EXTRAS: Tapestry Needle for seaming and weaving in ends

GAUGE:
Bernat Softee Chunky: 4.5 rows per inch, 3 stitches per inch

IN-THE-ROUND KNIT INSTRUCTIONS:


CO 60 stitches Hat Brim With Patons Pooch; knit in Garter Stitch for 3. Cut yarn leaving a 6-8 tail for weaving in. Hat Crown Join Bernat Softee Chunky; knit in Stockinette Stitch for 4. Hat Crown Shaping Row 1: *K10, K2Tog; repeat from * (55 sts) Row 2 and all Alt Rows: K all Row 3: *K9, K2Tog; repeat from * (50 sts) Row 5: *K8, K2Tog; repeat from * (45 sts) Row 7: *K7, K2Tog; repeat from * (40 sts) Row 9: *K6, K2Tog; repeat from * (35 sts) Row 11: *K5, K2Tog; repeat from * (30 sts) Row 13: *K4, K2Tog; repeat from * (25 sts) Row 15: *K3, K2Tog; repeat from * (20 sts) Row 17: *K2, K2Tog; repeat from * (15 sts) Row 19: *K1, K2Tog; repeat from * (10 sts) Cut yarn leaving a 6-8 tail for weaving in. Finishing With Tapestry Needle thread tail through the remaining stitches then weave in. Fold the Hat Brim (the Patons Pooch portion) of the hat up, plop it on and youre good to go!

FLAT KNIT INSTRUCTIONS:


CO 60 stitches Hat Brim With Patons Pooch; knit in Garter Stitch for 3. Cut yarn leaving a 6-8 tail for weaving in. Hat Crown Join Bernat Softee Chunky; knit in Stockinette Stitch for 4. Hat Crown Shaping Row 1: *K10, K2Tog; repeat from * (55 sts) Row 2 and all Alt Rows: P all Row 3: *K9, K2Tog; repeat from * (50 sts) Row 5: *K8, K2Tog; repeat from * (45 sts) Row 7: *K7, K2Tog; repeat from * (40 sts) Row 9: *K6, K2Tog; repeat from * (35 sts) Row 11: *K5, K2Tog; repeat from * (30 sts) Row 13: *K4, K2Tog; repeat from * (25 sts) Row 15: *K3, K2Tog; repeat from * (20 sts) Row 17: *K2, K2Tog; repeat from * (15 sts) Row 19: *K1, K2Tog; repeat from * (10 sts) Cut yarn leaving a 8-10 tail for seaming and weaving in. Finishing With Tapestry Needle thread tail through the remaining stitches, then begin to sew the back seam of the hat weaving in ends when complete. Fold the Hat Brim (the Patons Pooch portion) of the hat up, plop it on and youre good to go!
