BREAKING THROUGH RESISTANCE

Matthew 20:29-34;
“29 As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. 30 Two
blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they
shouted, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!"
31 The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder,
"Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!"
32 Jesus stopped and called them. "What do you want me to do for you?" he asked.
33 "Lord," they answered, "we want our sight."
34 Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their
sight and followed him.”

Large Crowd Followed Jesus (verse 29)

As soon as Jesus and His disciples came out of Jericho, a large crowed followed Him.

Wonderful, the bible is so intentional about everything that is included or written therein.
Nothing written in the Bible is without a purpose.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
correction, for instruction in righteousness:”

2nd Timothy 3:16 KJV

We are told of scripture that holy men were moved to pen down that which is written in the
scriptures and were for our learning.

This is just to establish the fact that anything in scripture carries a message for us that needs to be
carefully considered. So I believe that the writer of this book of scripture was so much careful to
include this portion of scripture. In fact the writer was inspired of God to write and to state
clearly that multitudes did follow Jesus.

That a lot of people were following Jesus will certainly mean that each one of them had their
own reason for following and also had their own individual expectations. In my own opinion I
believe some followed just to observe the miracles that were been done by Jesus, as a matter of
fact they themselves were not expecting to see miracles in their lives but just admired to see the
miracle worker work miracles, not only that but I believe that others also followed so as to gossip
about what was happening in town and another group of people I think did followed Jesus were
the people I will call information seekers or the journalists. They were only interested in what is
newsworthy and wanted something that is trending and not only that but they just wanted to be
the first to report to public. Finally stretching my mind to imagine a little to see the kind of
people that made up the majority I realized there could be spies among the multitudes and these
may have come from the Pharisees and the Sadducees just to pick Jesus at his word or actions.

In Matthew 5:1 we see a clearly picture of the two categories of people that followed Jesus.

It reveals to us the nature of the majority and that of the very few that were determined to go
with Jesus an extra mile.

“And seeing great masses of people he went up into the mountain; and when he was seated his
disciples came to him.” Matthew 5:1 KJV

When Jesus saw the multitude he decide to move a step further upward to see those are ready to
move on with him and this clearly reveals the kinds and types of people that were walking with
Jesus, but one thing is true that if it did happen in the days of Jesus even now we have the same
people in the body of Christ.

There are those that are among the majority and there those are ready to be among the few that
will stand for God and not compromise on their values and standards, they are people of strong
convictions and are ever ready to die for what they believe. We have such examples of those that
were determined to be in the minority and to stand for God in the Old Testament days. In the
book of Daniel 3:16 downwards talks about the three Hebrews who decide not to bow to the
golden image of the King Nebuchadnezzar.

They never consider the prevailing circumstances but were forever determined to stand for God.

But our main scripture reveals that there were two blind men separate from the crowed that
followed Christ. They were not among the majority yet they were very expectant and determined
to go all out with Christ. They placed value on the anointing of Jesus.

PRINCIPLES NEEDED TO BREAKTHROUGH EVERY RESISTANCE

(Essentials or Tools needed to help you keep moving)

A. PRINCIPLES OF MOVING IN TWO’S (2)

(Association)
30: “Two blind men were sitting by the roadside…”

It is always better to walk in two than to walk alone.

Having an Independent spirit is deadly.
Though they were blind, but they kept their togetherness and company.
They are certain blessings that can come only when you are connected and in two’s.

NB: Two (2) is the number of agreement.

“Can two walk together, unless they agree…?

Blessedness of Walking in Two’s

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

1. Companionship (psalm 119:63)

*Godly companions. Who you are joined to matters.
In the case of marriage.
In the case of friendship (David & Jonathan,
2. Assistance / Helping each other
3. There is much strength in two than one.
4. Bringing about lifting and promotion.
5. Helpers in overcoming the seasons of life.

B. PRINCIPLES OF GATHERING INFORMATION

(Building-up faith)

30: “…and when they heard that Jesus was going by…”

In life, if you are not informed, you will be deformed.

Your level of knowledge about God and the things of God will determine how far you will
go in life.
Many believers are destroyed for the lack of information/knowledge.
“My people are destroyed for the lack of knowledge...”
People give up quit or remain where they are in life because they lack the information to
move forward.
When you lack the know-how, you will certainly live any-how.
Many lack the faith needed to move on in life because they lack the knowledge and
information that will generate the faith they need for their miracle.
The only way by which the believer can live is the way of faith.
But then, faith as we know comes only through and by hearing or gathering information.
Romans 10:17
“..And he that comes to God must believe that He is and the rewarder of them that diligently
seek Him.”-Hebrews 11:6.

The information you have available determines how you will definitely live your life.
Your level of faith is determined by the level of information you have and believe.

How to Gather Information or Build-up Faith

1. Be quick to hear and slow to speak.- James 1:19

2. Don’t be a passive hearer but an active listener.
3. Pray in the Holy Ghost- Jude 1:20.
4. Develop a reading habit.
5. Have an enquiry mind. Decide not to be credulous (Disposed to believe on
little evidence).
6. The power of genuinely asking relevant and thought provoking questions.

C. PRINCIPLE OF PRAYER
(Persistent, Consistent and Persevering Prayer)

30: “…they shouted, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!"

Rules of Prayer

1. You must pray in the name of Jesus.

2. Be specific when you pray.
Specificity is key in prayer if we must receive answers to our prayer.
3. Believe when you pray.

D. PRINCIPLE OF HARDNESS
