Grammar: “Degree of Adjectives”

We use as + adjective + as to make comparisons when the things we are comparing are
equal in some way:
My daughter is as beautiful as a princess. Villages aren’t as noisy as cities.
I am as hardworking as you. Russian isn’t as difficult as Chinese.
Sam is as intelligent as Tom. This book isn’t as exciting as the last one.
2. Comparative Adjectives
We use comparative adjactives + than to compare two things, people etc.
Is your brother older than you. My new job is better than my old one.
Jack is more hardworking than Susan. The turtles are slower than cats
3. Superlative Adjectives
We use the+ superlative adjective to say which is the ( biggest, etc.) in a group.
After superlatives we use in + places, e.g. the world, the class.
It’s the hottest day of the month. This is the easiest question in the exam.
It’s the most expensive car in the world. Mary is the best student in the class.
Last weekend my family and I went to a lake. It is the biggest lake in the country and it is the
most popular place to go for the weekend. It is far away from the seaside, but I think it is safer than
the sea because the fish in the sea are more dangerous than the fish in the lake. I went swimming in
the lake but I stayed closer to the edge than the others. We also went fishing and, believe it, or not, I
caught more fish than anyone else! When we ate them, I thought they were the most delicious fish
ever. It was the most fantastic weekend of the year.

Turkey has got a rich culture. Turkish culture has got various elements of
Anatolian, Ottoman and Western Cultures. It has got modern elements but there are also
traditional, religious and historical values. Family and friendship are very important in
Turkey. People have got big families and they are very close to each other.
Turkish people value family relationships, friendship and neighborhood.
Hospitality is a very important part of Turkish culture. Turkish people show respect to the
elderly by kissing their hands. They serve drink or food to friends, neighbors and visitors
as a sign of respect. They often help each other. For example, they celebrate weddings,
festivals together. During the holidays and religious festivals, people visit each other.
Ladies make börek, dolma and baklava for the visitors. People eat properly. Families
usually have three regular meals in a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Marriage ceremonies are also very important in Turkish society. Families,
relatives, friends and neighbors celebrate the marriage together. A marriage has three
parts: engagement, henna night and the wedding. In Turkey, each region has different
traditions for ceremonies and festivals, but the aim is always the same: to enjoy these
days together!

Airplane travel is the most common form of transportation to get to overseas destinations. There
are a few steps of arranging a good travel. For travelling abroad, firstly Turkish citizens should have a valid
passport. To get a passport, a Turkish citizen has to apply to local police departments. Just after some
official dealings you will have your passport.
Finally, it is time to buy a ticket for your journey. It is the easiest part of a journey. Tickets can be
bought online, from a call centre or from a travel agency. Now that you get your passport, visa and ticket,
you are ready for your overseas journey.
