The Prospect of Applying AI in the Socio-economic Sectors in Bangladesh

Artificial intelligence plays an essential role in contemporary society. Artificial Intelligence is

a human-made entity that can execute tasks in place of a human intelligence. It is among the
innovative creations of contemporary technology. Implementing artificial intelligence is helping
developing and underdeveloped nations benefit from the globalization of technology and services.
Developing countries, like Bangladesh, have made progress in the social life of their citizens by
providing amenities such as healthcare, crime prevention, education, and transportation methods.
Expanding use of artificial intelligence accelerates the development of countries like Bangladesh
(Ahmed, 2022).

Modern technology has completely changed the way we live, work, and communicate. It has
become an indispensable aspect of our life. The rise of artificial intelligence has been a major
factor in the automation revolution in recent years. Efficiency and productivity have significantly
increased across a range of industries as a result of the development of AI. The increasing diversity
of applications for AI in industries like transportation and health care has led to rapid
advancements in recent years. In Bangladesh, artificial intelligence is now being applied in a wide
range of industries, including banking, healthcare, and agriculture. AI is being used in the medical
field in two areas: precise disease diagnosis and customized treatment strategies (Iqbal, 2023).

Bangladesh has used artificial intelligence as a means of digitalizing its economy as information
and technology continue to rapidly globalize in a worldwide workplace. The goal of Bangladesh's
government is to create a fully digitally enabled country with advanced technology and artificial
intelligence (AI) oriented workplaces in both the public and private sectors. The government
established the Union Digital Centre (UDC), a one-stop information and service delivery center,
with two primary objectives of decentralizing governmental service delivery and assisting the
underprivileged. Multiple websites have been launched to provide access to both the public and
private domains (Ahmed, 2022).

The increased number of digital platforms in Bangladesh has been accelerated by advancements
in internet connectivity and heightened accessibility to smartphones. Bangladesh is now the
second-largest source of internet labor in the world, exceeding India. Consequently, there are

2
several opportunities to explore the potential of the digital platform economy to create jobs for a
significant number of Bangladeshi youngsters. Digital platforms can assist businesses with e-
commerce, marketing, employing, fundraising, and recruiting. Analysis demonstrates that digital
platform operators expand the market, reduce regional barriers, and minimize marketing expenses.
Encouraging digital platforms requires simplifying online transactions as much as feasible
(Mohammed et al., 2021).

Bangladesh's economy used to be entirely dependent on agriculture, but as time went on, new
technologies infiltrated every sector of the economy. Automation and control technologies, such
big data, blockchain, and IoT, are used in many different areas. Due to their enormous popularity,
AI technologies are now required in numerous industries. The Bangladeshi government will need
to make significant preparations in order to merge BT and AI. In Bangladesh, there is great
potential for the widespread use of AI and BT, including ride-sharing, real-time mapping, hotel
and ticket booking, and natural language processing for Bengali and will have a promising future
if AI technologies are sufficiently incorporated (Hasan et al., 2022).

The financial services industry has experienced rapid technology improvements in recent years.
There is no alternative for having refined, contemporary information systems in order to match the
rising expectations of customers. AI will help businesses satisfy the ever-increasing demands of
their consumers. Bangladesh is adopting AI in order to modernize the country. Despite the fact
that digitization began a decade earlier, AI would function as an accelerator at the present time.
The implementation of inexpensive linked devices across various industries is made viable by
information technologies, which are connecting billions of consumers. Furthermore, Public
markets have become more receptive to investments in digital enterprises and technologies (Khan
et al., 2021).
