A Lesson Design in English Grade 8

I. Intended Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the lesson, the grade 8 students with 75% accuracy are expected to:

a. share their insights about the short story;

b. identify the elements of the short story;

c. perform a 5-minute creative presentation in relation to the story.

II. Learning Content:

Topic: Elements of the Short Story- “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe

III. Learning Activities:

a. Stimulating Activity:

The teacher shows a video clip about revenge which leads to the topic.
b. Actual Activity:

1. The students are grouped into four.

2. Each group is given a part of the short story.

3. Each group has 10 minutes to read and brainstorm about the story. One representative shares
the group’s insights in class.

4. When all groups are done, the teacher sums up and processes the students’ insights.

5. The students identify the elements of the short story.

c. Follow-up Activity:

1. Each group is given 10 minutes to prepare a 5-minute creative presentation about the short
story. (talk show, role play or news report)
