Answer
A digital storage oscilloscope (DSO) is an
electronic instrument that measures and
records electrical signals. It converts the
analog signal into a digital format and stores
it in its digital memory, allowing for easy recall
and analysis. DSOs are the most common
type of oscilloscope in use due to their
advanced trigger, storage, display, and
measurement features. They can store
waveforms and data for later analysis, making
them particularly useful for capturing
intermi!ent or rare events. DSOs can also
provide numerical values such as averages,
maxima and minima, root mean square
(RMS), and frequencies, and they may be
used to capture transient signals when
operated in a single sweep mode. The cost of
digital storage oscilloscopes varies widely,
with bench-top self-contained instruments
starting at US$300 or even less, and high-
performance models selling for tens of
thousands of dollars. DSOs can be easily
connected to computers for storage and
analysis, and they can measure very fast
signals that would be di"cult or impossible to
measure with an analog oscilloscope. They
also feature automatic measurements and
analysis of acquired data 1 3 .
