Lesson 1
Lesson 1
Objective: Given a computer with Internet access, students will identify the stages of
cell division with 100% accuracy.
Science GPS:
• SB1 Students will analyze the nature of the relationships between structures and
functions in living cells.
• SB2 Students will analyze how biological traits are passed on to successive
generations.
Technology Integration:
The Internet will be used to access the FSU Mitosis tutorial, Wisconsin Online tutorial,
and the Quia quiz.
Procedures:
1. Using the LDC projector, the teacher will display the video of cell mitosis.
2. After viewing the video, the teacher will use butcher paper to create a KWL chart.
The class will then complete the K and W columns of the chart. The teacher will
post it in the room.
3. The teacher will introduce the essential questions
4. The teacher will introduce the performance task
5. Students will be assigned a computer and directed to the following websites –
http://www.wisc-online.com/objects/index_tj.asp?objid=AP13604
http://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/cells/mitosisjava/mitosisjava.html
At the molecular expressions and Wisconsin online websites, students will
complete the interactive tutorials.
6. Students will then complete an assessment at
http://www.quia.com/cb/126953.html
7. Students will print their assessment results and add it to their science notebooks.
Web Links:
Wisconsin Online

An interactive mitosis tutorial.
Learner Participation:
While creating the KWL chart, students will participate in a class discussion. While
students are perusing the websites and completing their assessments, students will be
working independently.
Extensions:
For students that finish early, they will be instructed to visit the Mitosis movies website.
Accommodation:
The students with 504 plans will be given extra time to complete the worksheet if needed.
