The Arecaceae family, also known as the palm

family, is a large and diverse group of flowering


plants. There are over 2,600 species of palms
currently recognized, classified into around 181
genera. Palms are found in tropical and
subtropical regions around the world, and they
play an important ecological and economic role.
Here's a list of some notable Arecaceae
genera:
 Areca: This genus includes the betel nut palm (Areca catechu), a
commercially important species whose seeds are chewed as a stimulant in many
parts of Asia.
 Arenga: Sugar palm (Arenga pinnata) is a Southeast Asian palm that
produces sugar from its flower sap. It's also a source of palm wine and fiber.

 Astrocaryum: Astrocaryum Urundeuva,


also known as the macauba palm, is a fruit-
bearing palm native to South America. Its
orange fruits are edible and a good source
of oil.
 Bactris: Bactris guineensis, commonly called the peach palm, is a South
American palm with edible orange fruits. The fruits are a staple food in some
regions.
 Butia: Jelly palm (Butia yatay) is a small palm native to South America. It
produces sweet, edible fruits that are used to make jellies and jams.
 Calamus: Rattan palms belong to the genus Calamus. Rattan palms are
climbing palms with long, slender stems that are used to make furniture and
other products.
 Caryota: Fishtail palm (Caryota mitis) is a Southeast Asian palm with
unique, clustering leaflets that resemble a fishtail. It's a popular ornamental plant.
 Ceroxylon: The wax palm (Ceroxylon alpinum) is the national tree of
Colombia. It's the tallest palm species in the world, reaching heights of up to 200
feet.
 Chamaedorea: Parlor palms (Chamaedorea elegans) are popular
houseplants due to their low-light tolerance and attractive foliage.
 Cocos: The coconut palm (Cocos nucifera) is one of the most
economically important palm species. It provides coconuts, coconut oil, copra,
and other products.
 Dypsis: Areca palm (Dypsis lutescens) is another popular houseplant with
feathery fronds. It's native to Madagascar.
 Elaeis: The oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) is a major source of palm oil, a
vegetable oil used in a wide range of products.
 Euterpe: Acai palm (Euterpe oleracea) is a Brazilian palm that produces
acai berries, a popular superfood.
 Livistona: Fan palms of the genus Livistona are popular ornamental
plants with large, fan-shaped leaves.
 Phoenix: Date palm (Phoenix dactylifera) is a cultivated palm that
