Below is an example of a User-Defined Function (UDF) written in VBA (Visual Basic for Applications)
for Excel. This function calculates the area of a circle based on its radius.
Open Excel.
Press Alt + F11 to open the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) editor.
Go to Insert > Module to insert a new module.
Copy and paste the above code into the module window.
Close the VBA editor.
In Excel, you can now use the function Calculate Circle Area like any other built-in function. For
example, in a cell, you can type =Calculate Circle Area(5) to calculate the area of a circle with a radius
of 5 units.
This example demonstrates a simple UDF that calculates the area of a circle. You can extend this concept
to create more complex functions tailored to your specific needs, such as engineering calculations,
financial models, data analysis, etc. VBA provides a powerful toolset for extending Excel's functionality
and automating tasks.
Open Excel.
Press Alt + F11 to open the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) editor.
Go to Insert > Module to insert a new module.
Copy and paste the above code into the module window.
Close the VBA editor.
To run the macro, you have several options:
Press Alt + F8 to open the "Macro" dialog, select GreetUser, and click Run.
Go to the "Developer" tab (if not visible, enable it in Excel settings), click on Macros, select
GreetUser, and click Run.
Assign a shortcut key or create a button to run the macro.
When you run this macro, a dialog box will prompt you to enter your name. After entering your name
and clicking "OK", a message box will display a greeting message with your name, welcoming you to
Excel. If you close the input box without entering a name, it will display an error message.
