The Korean American Coalition – Los Angeles (KAC)

is a nonprofit organization established in 1983 to

promote the civic and civil rights interests of the

Korean American community. They are located at

3727 W 6th St #305, Los Angeles, CA 90020, and their contact information provided is (213)

365-5999. The website(https://kacla.org/) provides information about who they are, the mission

and vision of the organization, how and why they are established, and the pathway to

participation in the events, donations, and workshops that the organization provides. The mission

statement of the organization is “To promote and advocate for the civil and civic rights interests

of Korean Americans, increasing civic and legislative awareness and the general social

consciousness of the Korean American community.” They emphasize the importance of

increasing civic and legislative awareness for Korean Americans in the United States. The main

purpose of the organization is to promote the civic and civil rights interests of the Korean
American community. KAC endeavors to achieve these goals through education, community

organizing, leadership development, and coalition-building with diverse communities.

The reason why I chose this organization is because I am an undocumented student from Korea.

KAC provides a lot of pathways and events for Korean students’ education and careers. Their

main purpose is to ensure the status of Koreans in the United States, to ensure that Koreans are

treated fairly as citizens in American society, to understand the difficulties they face due to

linguistic and cultural difficulties, and to provide support so that they do not experience any

inconvenience in the process of receiving other benefits. Volunteers from the Korean American

Association or similar community organizations can participate in a variety of activities to

support and serve the Korean American community. Volunteering allows individuals to connect

with like-minded people and expand their social network. This can be particularly helpful for

personal and professional development.

What I will do as a volunteer for this non-profit organization is to make connections so that more

students can access this organization, and to inform and support more students so that they can

benefit. Although I will not receive any direct benefits from this activity, I believe that by

helping students in similar situations as me, I will provide them with more opportunities and

thereby make a great contribution to American society.
