Our History
Established in 1928 and privately owned by our people,
GHD has been a leader in professional services for more
than 80 years. Founding partner, Gordon Gutteridge, was
joined by Gerald Haskins and Geoffrey Davey in 1939. Gerald
Haskins, the “H” in GHD, was a Cantabrian whose father
was Christchurch City’s town clerk. After graduating from the
University of Canterbury, Haskins moved to Australia where
he built an illustrious career on a number of high profile water
projects.
From the 1960s onwards, GHD expanded throughout Australia
and parts of Asia. The company entered the New Zealand
market in 1999, following three strategic acquisitions.
Over the years we have provided our clients with world-
standard, robust solutions. This has resulted in rapid growth
and positioned GHD as one of the world’s leading professional
services companies.
