WHICH PART OF IELTS SPEAKING TEST IS
MOST IMPORTANT?
- If you are strong in speaking part 1 but not in
the other parts, then you will not get a good
score. You must do well in all parts to get a
good score

CAN YOU ASK QUESTIONS TO THE EXAMINER?

1. You can only ask the examiner to repeat


the question in IELTS speaking part 1 that
is all. You can't ask other questions!

2. You can't ask any questions in part 2. You


must use the topic given to you and try your
best to talk about it.

also ask the examiner to repeat the question,
like in part 1.

- Could you explain that, please?
- What do you mean exactly?
- Could you explain what X means, please?

SHOULD I SPEAK FAST OR SLOW?
1. Keep a steady, even pace when you are
talking.
2. Extend your answers.
3. Avoid long pauses.
4. Don't repeat yourself too much.
5. Avoid correcting yourself more than once or
twice.
6. Keep a logical order to what you are saying.

SAYING UMM...AAAH IN IELTS SPEAKING
Do you think you will get a lower score if you use
"umm" or "aahh" in speaking test?
- YES! They will lower your score in Fluency.
- Avoid using them as much as possible.
- Any unnecessary pauses will lower your score.

THINKING TIME
If you're still thinking about what to answer, you
can say:
- It's an interesting question. I've never really
thought about it before. I suppose...

- Well, to be honest, it isn't something I've thought


about before. Let me see...I guess...

- Will you repeat the question, please? Thanks

USE CONTRACTION MORE OFTEN
- As much as you can, use contractions when
you speak. In fact, It will boost your score for
pronunciation
LIKE:
wanna, gonna, I'm, you're, he's, they're, I've, I'll,
isn't, doesn't, haven't, shouldn't, couldn't

USE CONTRACTION MORE OFTEN
Example:
1. I really wanna go to the cinema tonight.
2. If you're gonna learn a language, then
improve your pronunciation.
3. The government should've developed better
public transportation. If they wanna limit
global warming, they need to limit the use of
cars.

CAN I TELL LIES? IS IT OK?

- Yes, you can lie. It won't affect your score. But


it isn't necessary. It's better to tell the truth.
Telling the truth has advantages
