TRAINING SESSION NOTES:

DAY 1:

STEP 1 – OPENING SOFTWARE

STEP 2 – DEFINING EPS

Defining the organization type (E.g., MES – EPC)

STEP 3 – DEFINING OBS

Defining the stakeholders, organization structure, responsible managers, and project manager

STEP 4 – CREATING NEW PROJECT

File – New Project (Select EPS, OBS, Project Start dates and end dates, etc.)

STEP 5 – ADDING ACTIVITIES

In the activities window, right click and select ADD, name in activity name, don’t change activity code
(Randomly generated codes will do fine), repeat the process for adding as many activities as is required.

TDY – Create a new project for CONGO MALL add activities given in the PDF for training

DAY 2:

TASK 1 - DEFINING WBS

WBS – work breakdown structure

Categorizing the various activities of the project

[WBS Code] [WBS Name] [Project ID] [Project Status]

PROJECT TAB – WBS (to open WBS details)

Indent – outdent (Using arrows from Right Ribbon/Panel)

TASK 2 - GROUP AND SORT BUTTON

TASK 3- ASSIGNING THE ACTIVITIES TO WBS

Using cut and paste option by selecting single or multiple activities and cut – paste

NOTE: IN PRACTICE, DEFINING THE WBS IS DONE FIRST AND ADDING THE ACTIVITIES IS DONE AFTER
DEFINING WBS TO AVOID WASTING TIME IN MOVING THE ACTIVITIES TO THE DESIRED WBS

TASK 4 – Entering the duration (time for each activity)

TDY – In the CONGO MALL project, define WBS and add the activities according to the categories
(WBS) they fall into.

Putting all the activities in correct order under correct WBS and adding correct Linking activities

Predecessors and Successor activities (we can assign as many P & S as we want)

Topic 1 : Scheduling

Part 1: Scheduling (Click Schedule in Schedule dialog box)

Total duration of the project – (based on the activity duration and lag and relationships between
activities)

SCHEDULE LOG - TO OPEN, SELECT SCHEDULE BUTTON (CLOCK LIKE ICON) & Select view log

CRITICAL PATH METHODOLOGY – many paths to complete the project, but only one path is critical

Duration of activity, which activities are linked, how are they linked, lag?

Total Float – Number of days an activity can be moved from its actual finishing date

Critical activities – Red Bar in Schedule

Non-Critical activities – Green Bar in Schedule

In Schedule log check the following:

1. Activities without successors


2. Activities without predecessors
3. CRITICAL ACTIVITIES

TOPIC 2: COLUMNS

Adding columns to the activities Window in the Project

[ left click on any column, select column ]

TOPIC 3: TIMESCALE

Timescale – Left click on any activity and select timescale –

Timescale start – Programming ( PS – 1W or PS – 1D or PS – 1M) for week, day and month

Font style and size

TOPIC 4: SORTING

Chronological order

Bar chart will adjust accordingly – Start – Ascending
