Squamous cells: Thin, flat cells that form the top layer of
the epidermis.
This type develops in melanocytes, the cells that produce pigment in the
skin. Melanoma is the most dangerous type of skin cancer and can spread
quickly if not treated early.
BCC originates in the basal cells of the skin's outer layer. It's the most
common type of skin cancer, typically appearing as a flesh-colored or pink
bump, often with visible blood vessels.
SCC forms in the squamous cells, which are flat cells found on the skin's
surface. It can appear as a firm, red nodule or a flat sore with a scaly crust.
MCC develops in Merkel cells, which are found in the top layer of the
skin. It often appears as a painless, firm, shiny lump on the skin, typically
in areas exposed to the sun.
Ultraviolet (UV) Radiation Exposure: Prolonged
exposure to UV radiation from sunlight or
tanning beds is the primary cause.
