Existing System: Supply Chain Management (SCM) Systems
Brief Description of the System:

Supply Chain Management (SCM) Systems are software solutions that manage the flow of goods
and services throughout the supply chain. These systems typically encompass functions like:

 Procurement: Managing the sourcing of raw materials and supplies from vendors,
including vendor selection, negotiation, purchase orders, and inventory management.
 Warehousing and Distribution: Optimizing warehouse operations, including receiving,
storage, picking, packing, and shipping of goods. Integrating transportation management
systems for efficient delivery.
 Demand Forecasting: Predicting future customer demand to optimize inventory levels,
production planning, and resource allocation.
 Inventory Management: Tracking stock levels across the supply chain, minimizing
stockouts and overstocking, and optimizing inventory turnover.
 Order Management: Receiving customer orders, managing order processing, and
facilitating communication with suppliers and distributors.
Areas for Improvement:
1. Process Inefficiency: Manual tasks, paper-based processes, and lack of automation can
lead to delays, errors, and reduced supply chain visibility.
2. Limited Visibility: Fragmented data across different systems can make it difficult to
track goods in real-time, hindering proactive decision-making.
3. Technology Integration: Limited integration with emerging technologies like Internet of
Things (IoT) and blockchain can hinder real-time data collection, traceability, and secure
transactions.
Business Process Engineering Solutions:
1. Process Automation: Implement automation tools for tasks like purchase order
processing, inventory management, and shipment tracking. Streamline workflows and
eliminate manual data entry for improved efficiency and accuracy.
2. Real-Time Visibility: Utilize real-time data capture technologies like RFID tags and
connected sensors to track goods in transit and across warehouse locations. Enhance
dashboards and reporting for comprehensive supply chain visibility.
3. IoT and Blockchain Integration: Integrate IoT sensors with SCM systems to collect
real-time data on product location, condition, and environmental factors. Explore
blockchain technology for secure and transparent record-keeping of transactions and
product provenance.
