Definition of Terms
Language proficiency:
The ability of individual to use language with a level of accuracy that transfers meaning in
both production and comprehension.
Language:
The words, their pronunciation, and the methods of combining them used and understood
by community(Merriam-Webster2006). In this study, language is defined as the ability to
communicate, understand, express ideas and to comprehend complex concepts.
Oral Communication:
It includes the ability to speak and listen effectively for the purpose of informing, persuading,
and \or relating(Morreale, el al,.1998). in this study, oral communication defined as the
processing of exchanging thoughts, opinions, or ideas.
Proficiency:
Refers to what someone can do\knows in ration to the application of the subjects in the real
world (Council of Europe2001:183) in this study, Proficiency refers to a high level of skills,
expertise, or competence in a particular subject or in particular activity.
Refers to the students’ in the Senior High School Humanities and Social Sciences
(HUMSS) track, typically focusing on social sciences, humanities, education, and liberal arts
subjects(Medium 2018).
HUMSS:
The Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) strand covers topics in the liberal arts,
training students tp think, write and speaks about various humanistic and societal concerns.
