    Monday, November 7 Composers are in rebellion against reality.

    They manufacture a product that is universally deemed superfluousat least until their music enters public consciousness, at which point people begin to say they could not live without it. 1. Song Analysis: Emma. Label song analysis and diy. 2. Quick note about daily writings. 3. Finish Wednesdays in-class: I will ask that each group lead a discussion session over todays reading (Otto Nomous) and Wednesdays readings (Rombes & Savage). Please be sure to come prepared by reading these pieces thoroughly. Discuss the following: a. What is the main idea behind the piece? b. Why should we care about this point? c. How does this reading relate with others that we have done this quarter? d. What would you critique about this piece? 4. Daily Writing: On p. 14 OBrien cites Vivienne Westwoods desire to celebrate restriction in her fashion. Why celebrate "restriction"? If punk was about freedom, why might early punk pioneers advocate such restriction? 5. Discuss the impact of OBriens final paragraph. 6.
