study entitled, “Identifying Stress and Coping Mechanisms Among the Philippine International
School-Qatar Senior Debate Team During Competitions.” Our research aims to identify the factors of
stress present in the senior debate team of the Philippine International School-Qatar and the coping
mechanisms they utilize, in order to further enhance the development and performance of the debaters.

Statement of the Problem

This research aims to explore and understand the specific stressors encountered by members of the
senior debate team at the Philippine International School-Qatar during competitions and to identify the
coping mechanisms they employ. Understanding how students cope with this stress is crucial for developing
supportive interventions that enhance their debate and educational experiences.
Specifically, this study aims to answer the following questions:

1. What aspects of debate competitions contribute to stress among members of the senior debate
team in terms of environmental, psychological and physiological aspects?
2. How do these identified stressors affect the performance of senior debate team members
during competitions?
3. What coping mechanisms are utilized by debate team members in response to the identified
stress during competitions?

Research Objective

this study aims to identify the factors of stress present in the debaters at the Philippine International
School-Qatar and the coping mechanisms they utilize.

The study’s findings would contribute to the development and performance of the debaters.

1. What aspects of debate competitions contribute to stress among members of the senior debate
team in terms of environmental, psychological, and physiological aspects?
Environmental Aspects:
 How do you perceive the physical settings of the debate competitions such as the venue, audience
size, and arrangement, to the influence your stress levels?
Psychological Aspects:
 Can you share an experience where your mental state significantly impacted your performance
during a debate competition? How did you feel, and what were your thoughts at that moment?
Physiological Aspects:
 In terms of physiological reactions, how does your body respond to the stress of participating in
debate competitions? How do you manage these reactions?

2. How do these identified stressors affect the performance of senior debate team members
during competitions?
 How do you believe stress from debate competitions impacts your performance during the actual
competition?
 In what ways do you think stress contributes to changes in your communication, strategic thinking,
cognitive function, and behavior during debate competitions?

3. What coping mechanisms are utilized by debate team members in response to stress during
competitions?
 What strategies or approaches do you employ to manage stress related to debate competitions?
 Could you describe a successful experience where you were able to overcome competition-related
stress? What coping mechanisms did you use?
