The Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC) has set the BSSC Stenographer syllabus for the Written
exam. Candidates must be thorough with the BSSC Stenographer syllabus and BSSC Stengographer
exam pattern to score well in the recruitment exams. The Commission will release the 2020 recruit-
ment notification once the previous year’s recruitment is concluded. Till then, candidates can down-
load the BSSC Stenographer syllabus and start preparing, for when the Commission releases the offi-
cial notification and the exam dates.

• The BSSC Stenographer selection process includes Written exam and Practical test.

• The BSSC Stenographer syllabus for the Written exam comprises General Studies, General Sci-
ence and Mathematics, and Comprehension, Logical Reasoning and Mental Ability. There has
been no syllabus specified for the Practical Test, however candidates must note that the Practi-
cal Test will test the hindi typing speed of the candidates.

BSSC Stenographer Syllabus 2020


The Commission has divided the recruitment process for the post of Stenographer in two types, that
is Written Test and Interview. The written test is the combination of three subjects: General Studies,
General Science/Mathematics, and Comprehension/logical reasoning/mental ability. To help the
candidates with detailed learning, we have mentioned below the complete BSSC Stenographer sylla-

Practical Test

The Commission has not specified any particular syllabus for the Practical Test. However, candidates
must practice typing and develop their Hindi typing skills and shorthand typing, to increase the typ-
ing speed as much as they can.

BSSC Stenographer Exam Pattern 2020

Written Exam

• The paper is divided into three sections, each having 50 questions.

• The paper is a total of 600 marks.

• Four marks will be awarded for every correct answer. One mark is deducted for a wrong an-
swer.

• Time duration for the exam is 2 hours 15 minutes.

Practical Test

• In the Practical Test, candidates have to type 80 words per minute, based on Hindi dictation
and will be given 4 minutes to complete the test.

• Candidates also have to undergo dictation typing for which 20 minutes are allotted.

• More than 10% mistake in the dictation typing will lead to disqualification.

• The candidates will also have to type in Hindi with a speed of 30 words per minute. Candidates
will have to complete 300 words typing in 10 minutes.

• Mistake percentage in Hindi typing must be less than 1.5% for candidates to qualify the test.
