Learning Competency:

-Read instruments to the limit

of accuracy of the tool
DEFINITION OF TERMS:

ACCURACY PRECISION

true value consistent
results
Understanding Instrument Accuracy:
Instruments vary in their precision levels,
often expressed as tolerances or margins
of error.
Understanding Instrument Accuracy:
For instance, a digital multimeter might
have an accuracy of ±0.1%, meaning
measurements can deviate within this
range. Understanding this is crucial for
interpreting readings effectively.
When reading instruments, technicians must
be mindful of tolerance limits. For instance, if
a temperature sensor has an accuracy of
±1°C, a reading of 25°C could actually range
from 24°C to 26°C. Being aware of these
limits prevents misinterpretation and guides
decision-making appropriately.
To ensure reliability, instruments must
undergo regular calibration and maintenance
routines. This process involves comparing
readings against known standards and
making adjustments as necessary. By keeping
instruments finely tuned, technicians can
trust the accuracy of their measurements
RULER
Limit of Accuracy: A typical ruler with
metric markings often has a limit of
accuracy of 10 millimeter (mm).
With a metric ruler, you can measure
the length of an object to the nearest
millimeter.
Example:
If the length of an object appears to be
between 12.5, you can have the
measurement as 12.4 - 12.6 cm.
