1 INTRODUCTION & PURPOSE


The present Technical Report elaborates design of the Cooling water systems that shall
be installed in the facility of LONZA AG in Visp – KUJIRA Project.
The design of Cooling water system is developed in accordance with:
• Building architectural and structural design;
• Room types, subject to the process requirements for these rooms;
• Concept Design for KUJIRA Project
• Applicable standards and regulations
• GMP zone
• As built documentation

2 COOLING WATER SYSTEM TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION


The present Technical Description elaborates design of the Heating systems that shall
be installed in the LONZA AG in Visp – KUJIRA Project, and utilities are extended from the
existing systems in Visp, Switzerland.
The design of Heating system is developed in accordance with:
 Building architectural and structural design;
 Required capacities data from HVAC

Media and material specifications

Cooling water generation, for all three type of cooling water: Cooling water HVAC, AHU
run-around recuperators, Cooling water process and Ice water, equipment is not included in
the scope of the project. Generation and main distribution loop is in Lonza scope.

Primary piping will be executed according Lonza pipe standard LH001, while secondary
(connections to cooling water consumers) will be executed according Lonza pipe standard
LH130.
Fittings are selected according to those pipe type standards, and overview per each
application, is given in separate document “Specification of equipment per application”.

Technical Description

2.3.1 Functions of the Cooling system

Cooling water HVAC is used as cooling medium for following users:

- AHU, 5 users, room E6402-Technical Area HVAC,


- Unit Cooler, 6 users, room E6402-Technical Area HVAC
- Unit Cooler, 4 users, room E6401-Technical Area Utilities,
- Downflow Booth, 1 user, room E5453-Buffer preparation,
- PIFF, 8 users, room E5426-Buffer Hold,
- PIFF, 3 users, room E5421-CNC Corridor,
- Hygienic Cooler, 2 users, room E5429-Freezer Room
- Cooling Generator, 2 users, room E6402-Technical Area HVAC

Cooling water for AHU run-around recuperators is used as cooling medium for following users

- AHU, 5 users, room E6402-Technical Area HVAC,

Cooling water process is used as cooling medium for following users:

- Autoclave, 1 user, room E5471,


- Plate Freeze and Thaw Unit, 1 user, room E5425,

2.3.2 Cooling water HVAC system design – AHU coils

Cooling water for systems noted above will be generated in separate cooling plant
which is not in scope of this project. Therefore, we will not design any safety equipment for
this system (safety valves, expansion vessels).
Connection to existing pipes DN150 is in technical shaft.
AHU coils are with variable flow. All coolers have regulation with constant supply
temperature and variable flow. This is achieved with 2-way control valve (modulating

regulation). Valve is controlled by air desired temperature. Temperature indicators are


installed on supply and return pipe.
All consumers have balancing valves for proper hydraulic balancing of cooling system.
Air vents are predicted on system high points so that is possible to remove all air from
hydraulic system.

2.3.3 Cooling water HVAC - Run – around systems for AHU

Recuperation of heat in AHUs is realized by run – around systems between supply


and exhaust AHU units.
Temperature regime is individual for each circuit and we will get it from the selection of
AHUs. Exact temperature regime will be indicated on schematic drawing.
Run-around loop is consisting from pump, pipes and pipe accessories.
Frost protection of run-around heat exchanger is achieved with use of three-way valve.
Run-around loop is secured with use of expansion vessel and safety valve.

2.3.4 Cooling water HVAC - PIFF Units

The Plenum Integrated Filter Fan (PIFF) is a fan filter unit with integrated return air,
cooling coil and HEPA filter. It is used to supply turbulent mixed airflow while reducing the
concentration of particles and the temperature inside of clean environments.
PIFF has a function to:
• control temperature of the rooms via cooling coils
• provides the proper amount of clean air to rooms (particle reduction)
The PIFF unit fulfils the following functions:
• Filtration – Return air ISO Coarse (G4)
• Filtration – Supply air H13
• Cooling

Temperature of supply air depends on of temperature inside the room. The unit is working
in 100% recirculation.
To prevent condensation on cold surfaces and avoid water dripping in the clean room
cooling coil is connected to 14/20 °C water cooling system.
PIFF coils are with variable flow. All coolers have regulation with constant supply
temperature and variable flow. This is achieved with 2-way control valve (modulating
regulation). Valve is controlled by air desired temperature.

2.3.5 Cooling water HVAC - Coolers for technical area

The industrial air coolers for technical area are air coolers with integrated cooling coil
and fan. It is used to supply cold air into room from front side, and collect hot air from rear
side.

Temperature of supply air depends on of temperature inside the room. The unit is working
in 100% recirculation

2.3.6 MKWE- Ice water

Existing DN150 flanged MC1 connections for Ice water is located on Level 1 technical
shaft. That connection should be continued until Level 6, also with two DN100 main branches
with valves for Kujira purpose.
Ice water consumers are located in E6402 Technical Area, on grating area between
AHU. Consumers are TCU (Temperature Control Units) with purpose to obtain hot/cold water
distribution to process tanks on Level 5.

2.3.7 MKWP - Process cooling water

Connection to existing pipes DN150 is in technical shaft.


At 6th floor there are WFI loop skids consumers in technical area utilities and in
interstitial space are located TCU units and clean steam sample coolers.
At 5th floor there are PFT users in bag thawing room and in storage CNC, autoclave
in technical room. In Cryovessel thaw room are two TCU comsumers.

Piping installation will be designed to be drainable. Design will include low point
drains, installed in accordance with the LONZA Design principles

Cooling lines are sized according to optimal velocity and specific pressure drop.
Pipes are sized according adopted utilization factor for all consumers.

Piping and other fittings shall be supported, anchored, or guided to prevent undue
line deflection or excessive vibration. For calculation and construction stainless steel pipes
are used according to ISO 1127:
