WHAT IS PRINT
ON DEMAND?
Print on demand is a lower investment and less
risky way to start an online business. You work
with a print provider who prints and ships all
your products as you get orders. You don’t pay
for the the product until someone buys your
product, so there’s no need to buy inventory in
bulk or hold any inventory yourself.

With print on demand, everything from the

printing, order fulfillment and shipping, is
handled by your print provider. Once you’ve set
everything up on the backend, it only takes a
few clicks to fulfill an order after you’ve made a
sale.

It provides you the freedom to work whenever

and wherever you want once you're selling
consistently.

There are so many different products to sell

from t-shirts, books, shoes, bags, wall art,
phone cases, clocks, laptop skins, mugs, and
so many other options!

SETTING UP YOUR STORE
The first step for setting up your store is to select a platform. These are
the best platforms to set up your print on demand store if you’re just
getting started.

Shopify

If you’re looking to start a print on demand business on your own

website, Shopify is a great option. It’s really easy to use and has lots of
free themes you can get started with. You can start your store for only $1
for three months using this link.

Etsy

If you’re a complete beginner with print on demand, Etsy is the perfect

choice because of its built in traffic of millions of customers.

If you haven't already, sign up for an Etsy account to start your shop.

The good news is, you don't need to have a business license or be a
registered business to sell on Etsy. You can start as a sole proprietor and
build up as you go. But if you're looking for the fastest and easiest way to
set up an LLC, I recommend checking out Incfile.

After selecting your platform, the next step is to sign up and customize
your store design.

directly with Shopify and Etsy.

CREATING WINNING DESIGNS
After you’ve found winning ideas, it’s time to create your print on
demand designs!

Here are some tips to create great print on demand designs:

1. Keep it simple stupid (KISS): A clean and simple design usually

sells better than a complex and busy one.
2. Use relevant graphics: Choose high-quality graphics and images
that are relevant to your design.
3. Consider the colors: Choose colors that are visually appealing
and that work well together. Keep in mind that some colors may
look different in print than they do on a screen.
4. Focus on your niche: Consider your target audience and design
with them in mind. Use language and graphics that will resonate
with the niche.
5. Be original: Avoid using images or quotes that thousands of other
sellers are already using.
6. Pay attention to typography: Choose fonts that are easy to read
and bold to make it easier to stand out.
7. Stay on trend: Keep up with current design trends and
incorporate them into your designs.

MISTAKES TO AVOID
Now that you have the basics down, let’s dive into the mistakes you
should be avoiding with your print on demand store.

Not running a trademark or copyright search - Using copyrighted

or trademarked material in your designs can lead to legal
consequences and even getting your shop shut down. Before
creating any design, conduct a search using platforms like Google,
Justia, or the TESS system by the USPTO to ensure that your designs
do not infringe on existing copyrights or trademarks.

Not optimizing for search engines (SEO) - Neglecting SEO means

you're missing out tons of organic traffic, which can be a significant
and free source of customers. Use optimization tools like Craft
Inspector or Erank to best optimize your listings for SEO.

Copying someone else’s design - Copying designs not only makes it

hard to stand out but can also land you in legal trouble. If you seek
inspiration from others’ work, make sure your final design is unique
and not a direct copy.

Not considering a target audience - Identify and understand your

target audience before creating a design. Do market research and
to understand your audience and what colors, graphics or quotes
resonate with them.
