1. General
The Door 3 Type A, Canted Slide/Raft is designed to serve a dual purpose. It provides a rapid egress of
personnel from the airplane to the ground in an emergency land evacuation. It also serves as a raft when
ditching in water. This unit is stowed in the aircraft doors. An individual, self-contained stored gas
reservoir assembly supplies the pressure to provide a usable unit within six (6) seconds after actuation.

2. Description
Each slide/raft assembly is made up of the following major parts: an inflatable assembly, two aspirators,
two hoses, a reservoir assembly and a packboard.
A. The inflatable is made from neoprene-coated nylon fabrics. These are pattern cut and bonded
together forming two independent pneumatic tubes structurally joined together, one on top of the
other. A radiant heat reflective aluminized coating is applied to the inflatable. This provides protection
from the effects of radiant heat. Should either tube fail, evacuation is still available at a slower rate.
Each tube is equipped with a relief valve to prevent over-inflation.
A panel suspended between the top and bottom tube assemblies provides the evacuees with a
sliding surface in the slide mode, or a floor when used as a raft.
The unit is attached to the aircraft by a metal girt bar inserted through the girt panel. The girt panel
provides a smooth entry onto the sliding surface during land evacuation. In the event of an overwater
deployment, the girt panel holds the unit at the aircraft doorway and can be manually released when
ready to leave the area.
Life lines are attached to each side of the inflatable to assist in its use as a flotation device.
Deceleration strips are mounted at the end of each sliding lane to decrease speed and help position
the evacuee upright when functioning as a slide.
Lighting is provided along both sides of the sliding area and across the toe of the unit to guide
evacuees to the ground in case of evacuation in darkness. The lights are powered by the aircraft
emergency lighting buss and are automatically actuated when the slide is deployed. A schematic of
the electric circuit is shown in Figure 2.
Accessory components (survival kit, canopy, sea anchor, heaving ring, hand pump, locator lights and
hook knife) are attached or stowed in pouches attached to the slide/raft and are packed in the
packboard.
B. The inflation system has a reservoir to store the nitrogen/carbon dioxide (N2/CO2) gas mixture, a
regulator valve to control the output of gas from the reservoir, hoses to transfer the gas to the
aspirators.
(1) A regulator valve assembly is installed on the reservoir.
(2) A lanyard is installed (before charging the reservoir) during the arming operation. It is used to
release the trigger pin to allow the gas to move through a pilot hole and force the piston open.
This allows the stored gas to be released from the reservoir, through a secondary pressure
regulating area, to the hoses.
(3) The inflation hoses are made with a flexible, seamless EPDM rubber compound inner tube. This
is reinforced with a kevlar braid, a cover of braided polyester and incorporates stainless steel
fittings.
(4) The aspirators are air pumps used to inflate the slide/raft. Each aspirator contains a positive
closure flapper, a nozzle assembly and an inlet check valve.
C. The packboard is made from a reinforced honeycomb laminate and will accept a decorative cover.
It is designed to conform to the limited dimensions of the stowage area. A nylon fabric cover holds
the pack in the packboard. A mechanism is incorporated to release the packed unit during door
operation in an emergency.

D. Each packed evacuation system is supplied with an interface cable. The cable is installed on the
forward packboard release rail. After installation on an aircraft door, the harness must be connected
to the Cabin Integrated Data System (CIDS) to provide crew members with an indication of
acceptable reservoir pressure and system readiness.
E. Some installations may have a remotely located supplemental survival kit. One supplemental
survival kit (1, IPL Figure 14) allows the unit to meet the requirements of the CAA CAO Schedule 4,
Scale K. The other supplemental survival kit (1A, IPL Figure 14) allows the unit to meet the
requirements of JAR-OPS 1, Subpart K 1.835.

3. Operation
A. Before the unit is installed on the door, the girt bar is inserted through the girt panel. A barlock (slider)
is installed on each end of the girt bar and placed in floor-mounted retaining brackets.
A remote indication of correct reservoir pressure and system readiness is provided in the cockpit.
Deployment of the unit and inflation are automatically initiated when the door is opened in the
emergency mode.
As the door opens, the girt is pulled taut. The release pin lanyards on the girt also tension and pull
from the release rails. As the door continues to travel out, girt tension pulls the packboard away from
the release rails. The release rails stay with the door, and the packboard falls out of the aircraft.
As the packboard rotates out, the parachute pin lanyard attached to the girt pulls and releases the
packboard covers.
As the packed assembly falls below the door sill, the packboard covers open and the unit falls from
the packboard. The firing lanyard actuates the regulator valve upon reaching its travel limit. At this
time, primary gas is supplied to the aspirators and the inflation is initiated.
A red manual back-up inflation handle located on the girt can be pulled if the unit is not automatically
inflated during door opening.
B. Reliable operation is dependent upon two conditions:
(1) Adequate inflation pressure.
(a) The stored gas reservoir must be charged per Component Maintenance Manual (CMM)
25-62-31 (Table 2, below).
(b) Correct pressure is indicated on the pressure gauge by the needle being located over the
green shaded area.
(2) Correct packing. See separate packing instructions. (See Table 2)
(a) The packing procedures outlined in the applicable packing instructions must be followed for
the slide/raft to deploy in a usable attitude.

DISASSEMBLY
1. General
A work area of at least 40 feet by 15 ft. (12.2 m by 4.6 m) is needed to lay out the unit. To prevent damage
to the inflatable, Goodrich recommends that the immediate area be carpeted or padded. All personnel
must wear packing socks.
CAUTION: THE SLIDE/RAFT REQUIRES CAREFUL HANDLING TO PREVENT
DAMAGE. DO NOT ALLOW THE ASPIRATORS TO HIT AGAINST A
HARD SURFACE. THIS WILL CAUSE CUTS IN THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF
THE INFLATABLE. GOOD HOUSEKEEPING PRACTICES MUST BE
USED IN THE WORK AREA. METAL SHAVINGS, SHARP
INSTRUMENTS, WOOD STICKS, AND OTHER SHARP OBJECTS CAN
PUNCTURE THE FABRIC AND CAUSE LEAKS.
NOTE: The level of disassembly shall not be more than is necessary for overhaul or to
complete the repair. For identification of damage or functional failure refer to
the CHECK, TESTING AND FAULT ISOLATION sections.
A. See Table 301 for special tools, fixtures and equipment referenced in this section. Materials required
for disassembly are listed in Table 302.
NOTE: Suitable equivalents may be substituted for items listed in Table 301 and
Table 302 unless otherwise specified.

- Coating deterioration of slide lane fabrics is most often the result of hydrolysis from long term
exposure to humidity and moisture. Fluid contamination is another possible, but less fre-
quent, cause. Coating deterioration can take the form of coating loss, separation between
the coating and base cloth (delamination), or change in state of the coating
(coating feels tacky or gummy).

2. Repair Limitations
A. Inflation Tubes
The following describes what is allowed and what is not allowed under the “minor repair” category for
mechanical damage to inflation tubes.
(1) Patch repairs can be made to holes and punctures in the inflation tube fabric up to 2 in.
(5.08 cm) in diameter. Straight tears up to 24 in.(60.96 cm) in length and L-shaped tears up to
12 in. (30.48 cm) in total length (sum of both legs) may be repaired. Jagged or “saw-tooth” tears
up to 6 in. (15.24 cm) in overall length may be repaired. DO NOT patch single instance damage
greater than that described above. Contact Goodrich for disposition instructions or return the
unit to Goodrich for repair.
(2) Strictly observe the maintenance manual recommendations for size of repair patch relative to
damage size. These dimensions have been developed to make sure that the repaired unit will
continue to meet structural strength requirements.
(3) Strictly observe the maintenance manual specifications for repair patch material and repair
adhesives.
(4) Do not patch holes and tears which extend into seams or through seams, or which come closer
than 2 in. (5.08 cm) to a seam or reinforcement. Contact Goodrich for disposition instructions or
return the unit to Goodrich for repair.
(5) Do not apply repair patches over seams, construction tapes or reinforcement patches. Do not
patch holes or tears which are so close to previously installed repair patches that the new repair
patch will come within 2 in. (5.08 cm) of another repair patch. Do not apply repair patches which
will overlap onto other repair patches. Contact Goodrich for disposition instructions or return the
unit to Goodrich for repair.
(6) Do not apply repair patches which are partially on the tube and partially on the base patch of an
accessory item. In such cases, lift the accessory item’s base patch, repair the tube per normal
practices, then re-install the accessory item over the repair patch.
B. Fabric Porosity
Porosity is defined as air leakage through the fabric coating where there is no mechanical damage
(holes, tears or chafing) to the fabric. Patch repairs are generally ineffective as a remedy for porosity
except in those cases where the porosity is limited to a small, specific area; thus, repair of porosity is
limited to repair of minor localized porosity. If porosity affects a large area or is spreading throughout
a panel, then panel replacement is indicated. If porosity affects multiple panels, then replacement of
the inflation tube or inflatable assembly is normally the best remedy. If porosity exceeds the limits
listed below, contact Goodrich for disposition instructions or return the unit to Goodrich for repair.
(1) The maximum size of a single patch used to repair porosity is limited to 64 in2 (413 cm2). Do not
patch an individual porous area that is so large that it cannot be repaired with a 64 in2
(413 cm2) patch.
(2) Do not patch a porous area if multiple small patches will exceed 64 in2 (413 cm2) total on any
one panel.
(3) Do not patch a porous area if individual patches will touch or overlap each other.
THIS DOCUMENT SUBJECT TO THE CONTROLS AND RESTRICTIONS ON THE FIRST PAGE.
GOODRICH
Component Maintenance Manual w/IPL
4A3934 Series
C. Fluid Contamination
Air leakage can result from deterioration of fabric coating due to fluid contamination. If contaminated
fabric coating remains tacky or gummy after cleaning, do not patch. Replacement of the deteriorated
fabric is indicated; contact Goodrich for disposition instructions or return the unit to Goodrich for
repair.
D. Slide Lanes
The following describes what is allowed and what is not allowed for repairs to the slide lanes.
(1) Physical Damage
(a) Holes, tears and abrasions, where the base fabric threads are cut, in the suspended
portion of the slide lane are not repairable. Contact Goodrich for disposition instructions or
return the unit to Goodrich for replacement of the damaged slide lane.
(b) Minor abrasions to the bottom side of the slide lane may be patched provided that the
abraded area is less than 1 in. (2.54 cm) (in either length or diameter), the base fabric
threads are not worn completely through, and the slide lane is in good condition otherwise.
A repair patch made of the same material as the slide lane and 2 in. (5.08 cm) larger
overall than the damaged area, may be applied to the bottom of the slide lane.
(c) Small abrasions to the slide lane in the ground contact area of slide lanes which wrap
around the toe tube may be patched provided that the abraded area is less than 4 in.
(10.16 cm) (in either length or diameter), the base fabric threads are not worn completely
through, and the slide lane is in good condition otherwise. A repair patch made of the same
material as the slide lane and 1 in. (2.54 cm) longer overall than the damaged area may be
used.
(d) Abrasions to the top side of the slide lane are covered in paragraph 2.B, below.
(e) Do not apply patches to the top (sliding side) of the slide lane. Strictly observe the
maintenance manual specifications for repair patch material and repair adhesives.
(2) Wear/Coating Deterioration
(a) Any noticeable loss of topside coating in the slide path area of the slide lane fabric is not
repairable. Contact Goodrich for disposition instructions or return the unit to Goodrich for
replacement of the damaged slide lane.
(b) Minor coating loss (less than 1 in. (2.54 cm) in length or diameter) in the bottom side of the
slide lane may be repaired, provided that the slide lane and its coating are in good
condition otherwise. (If there is damage to the base cloth fibers, then this damage should
be evaluated as an abrasion per paragraph D (1), above.) A repair patch made of the same
material as the slide lane and 1 in. (2.54 cm) larger overall than the defect may be applied
to the bottom of the slide lane. Coating loss to the bottom side of the slide lane greater than
that described above is not repairable. Contact Goodrich for disposition instructions or
return the unit to Goodrich for replacement of the damaged slide lane.
(c) Coating separation (delamination) and deterioration (tacky or gummy quality of the coating)
is not repairable. Contact Goodrich for disposition instructions or return the unit to Goodrich
for replacement of the slide lane.
THIS DOCUMENT SUBJECT TO THE CONTROLS AND RESTRICTIONS ON THE FIRST PAGE.
GOODRICH
Component Maintenance Manual w/IPL
4A3934 Series
2) If the stained area is stiff or boardy, the physical properties of the fabric have been
altered. Contact Goodrich for disposition instructions or return the unit to Goodrich for
replacement of the slide lane.
(4) Slide Lane Installation/Attachment - Minor loosening (less than 2 in. (5.08 cm) in any
dimension) of the slide lane attachment is generally repairable using standard repair practices,
provided that the slide lane is in good condition overall. Larger areas of loosening, or numerous
areas of loosening, require additional assessment; contact Goodrich for disposition instructions
or return the unit to Goodrich for evaluation.
(5) Items Bonded to Slide Lanes - Minor loosening (less than 1 in. (2.54 cm) in any dimension) of
items bonded to slide lanes is generally repairable using standard repair practices. However, if
the loosening is due to poor adhesion of the slide lane coating to the base cloth, then a careful
assessment of the slide lane per paragraph D (2), above, should be conducted.
3. Standard Practices
These are basic standard practices used in the repair of inflatable assemblies. Follow these standard
practices while subsequent repairs are made.

4. Repair Procedures
A. General Notes on Fabric Repairs
WARNING: ADHESIVES, SOLVENTS, AND PAINTS USED IN SLIDE REPAIR
ARE TOXIC AND FLAMMABLE. MAKE SURE THE AREA HAS A
GOOD AIR FLOW. AVOID SKIN CONTACT. DO NOT BREATHE THE
VAPORS.
(1) Round-off the corners of all fabric patches to a 0.25 in. (6.4 mm) radius before application.
(2) Apply the inside patches (to the inside inflation tube fabric P/N 800116-1 or -2, See Table 602)
so the coated side is bonded to the coated side of the tube repair area.
(3) Apply the outside patches (to the outside inflation tube fabric P/N 800116-1 or -2) so the coated
side is bonded to the uncoated side of inflation tube.
(4) The aluminized coating must be removed from the bond location before the bond is made. This
will make the best bond. Remove the coating as follows:
(a) Wash the repair area. Use a clean lint-free cloth (See Table 602) that is moist with toluene
(See Table 602) or methyl-ethyl-ketone and wrung-out.
(b) Fully wipe all surfaces to be bonded dry. Use a clean lint-free cloth.
(c) Repeat these actions as much as needed to make sure all of the aluminized coating is
removed from the repair site.
(5) The inflation tube fabric (P/N 800116-1 and 800116-2) has an uncoated nylon outside surface.
Apply the primer to the uncoated repair surface, as described in paragraph 3. A. (1) (c) 2). This
will make the best bond to the surface.

1. General
This Illustrated Parts List (IPL) contains a complete listing of all of the replaceable parts for the Slide/Raft.
The second and successive lines provides the item number or callout for parts shown in the
illustration. Items that are not illustrated are shown with a dash placed before the item number.
NOTE: Item numbers or callouts are generally ‘typical’ in text and illustrations
and do not show the alpha-variant of the part unless required for
clarity. Therefore, the effectivity codes listed in the EFF CODE column
and the notes in the NOMENCLATURE column are used to determine
the appropriate configuration.
