Day 3 Ratio and Proportion

1. Ratio - A ratio compares two quantities by division, expressing the relationship

between them.
2. Proportion - Proportion is an equation stating that two ratios are equal,
indicating a consistent relationship between quantities.
3. Equivalent - means having the same value or meaning, often applied when
comparing fractions or ratios.
4. Scale - Scale is a ratio that relates the dimensions of a model to the dimensions
of the actual object, often used in maps or architectural drawings.
5. Fraction - A fraction is a numerical quantity representing a part of a whole,
expressed as one integer divided by another.
6. Rate - Rate is a ratio comparing two quantities with different units, such as
speed or price per unit.
7. Percent - Percent is a ratio that compares a number to 100, expressing it as a
fraction of 100.
8. Unit Rate - Unit rate is a rate where the second quantity is one unit, allowing
for easy comparison between different quantities.
9. Inverse Proportion - Inverse proportion is a relationship between two
quantities in which an increase in one leads to a decrease in the other, and vice
versa.
10. Direct Proportion - Direct proportion is a relationship between two quantities
where they increase or decrease together at the same rate.
11. Constant of Proportionality - The constant of proportionality is the value that
relates two proportional quantities, appearing as the coefficient in the equation
of proportionality.
12. Cross Multiplication - Cross multiplication is a method used to solve
proportions by multiplying the numerator of one ratio by the denominator of the
other and vice versa.
13. Simplify - Simplify means to reduce a fraction or ratio to its simplest form, often
by canceling common factors.
14. Reciprocal - Reciprocal is the multiplicative inverse of a number, obtained by
swapping the numerator and denominator of a fraction.
15. Percentage Change - Percentage change is the relative change of a value
expressed as a percentage, calculated by comparing the difference to the original
value.
16. Relative - Relative describes a comparison between two quantities or measures,
indicating their relationship or significance in relation to each other.
17. Ratio Table - A ratio table organizes ratios and equivalent ratios in a tabular
format for easy comparison and analysis.
18. Golden Ratio - The golden ratio is a special ratio found in mathematics and art,
approximately equal to 1.618, often associated with aesthetically pleasing
proportions.
19. Compound Ratio - A ratio that is composed of two or more separate ratios.
20. Geometric Mean - The average of two numbers obtained by multiplying them
together and then taking the square root.
