DM FwWN ee 6 Features in Spoken Grammar . Ellipsis . Heads Tails . Fillers . Backchannel . Phrasal Chunks how to create a good PPt (Power Point) Presentation As well as it’s name, power point, you have to present it into points. Points can make the audience focus on what you are talking about. Use the points as the highlight of the things that you want to explain. Don’t write long sentences or paragraphs. Use the power of points to get your audience's attention. If you just read the long paragraphs, your audience will lose their focus. Ellipsis * Examples: > it seems like a good idea to me. The elliptical version: > Seems like a good idea. > | was to take the east path and Steve was to take the west path. The elliptical version: > | was to take the east path and Steve, the west. The heads In spoken grammar, mostly in initial position of the utterance. It is used to emphasize something. The head > your wife, your kids, your friends. > all that stuff The head in the sentence is the subject, mostly repeated by the speaker with pronouns or determiner. Another example of head + The tall man who is walking down the street is my father. + My father is the tall man who is walking down the street. Spoken: >My father, the man who is walking down the street. >My father, he’s walking down the street. i Tails + As well as its name, tails are mostly in the final position of the utterance. * Itis also used to emphasize something. * Example: > Look! My father is walking down the street, that tall man. > That man is walking down the street, my father. Filler * It’s mostly used to fill the time or to give more space for speaker to think about what to say. * Example: > | totally expect, mmm... the best in life. > Well, uhhh.. | actually don’t know many things about her. Backchannel + It’s mostly used to respond what the speaker say. * It is to show that you are paying attention on it. * Example: > uh-uh... (nodding your head) > Oh | see... > Absolutely.. Phrasal Chunks * It is also called as the filler of the conversation. * The fillers are mostly in the form of meaningful words. * Example: > | kinda like it. (I kind of like it) > | kinda feel sleepy. (I kind of feel sleepy) > | need, you know, a little space.
