MAKING THE NOSE

Take your taupe yarn and yarn needle and

sew on the nose. Please use my pictures
for reference. I basically used the central
opening as the bottom point of the nose. I
sewed what you see in the picture at left 3
total times, going through the same
openings again and again. Once you are
done, tie the yarn ends tightly on the
inside of the snout.

When attaching the snout, make sure you

keep the bottom of the snout far enough
away from the edge of the opening so you
can attach the beard. See my pictures for
reference! Stuff with fiber fill before
sewing all the way around.

beard
here

Fold one yarn strand in half and using your

crochet hook, pull the yarn though a stitch.

www.littlemuggles.com

MAKING THE
BEARD
Then place the two loose yarn ends through the
loop and pull it taut to complete the knot. Next, cut four 9.5 inch pieces of white
yarn. (This might seem too long, but after
some rigorous brushing, it’s not
uncommon for the yarn strands to break-
you will ultimately end up with a beard
that’s a lot shorter! Better to err on the
long side..you can always trim it later on!)
Attach the yarn under the snout using a
latch hook technique in 4 centered
consecutive stitches.

Next, use a steel bristled brush to brush

through the white yarn tails until it has a
fluffy appearance. (TIP that I wish I knew
before I started this: It helps to separate
each yarn tail into its individual strands
before brushing!)

I found this brand new steel bristle utility brush in my husband’s

tool chest. He never found a use for it so now I’ve claimed it for my
yarn projects! A wire pet brush would work too!

Let the brushing begin!! It starts to get fuzzy…

Fuzzier still…note how the yarn starts breaking up into www.littlemuggles.com

individual strands towards the top

It definitely takes a bit of time and patience to ultimately get that fluffy beard look. I laid the yarn tails out
on something that didn’t matter if it got scratched up (ie . a black folder) and brushed away! You should
be brushing in one direction only. (away from the head) Also, if you are using a steel brush like the one I
have, be CAREFUL not to poke yourself with the bristles! It’s so easy and so painful to do it! (Especially
when you are trying to clean out the yarn fuzz that gets caught in the bristles)
After the beard gets to your desired level of fuzziness, you can either leave it as is or trim it if you prefer.
In my example, I didn’t trim it at all. Note how much shorter it is than when I first started! That big fluff
ball in the background is all the fuzz and broken yarn ends I collected as I was brushing! (If you separate
the yarn tails into their separate strands prior to brushing, there should be a lot less yarn breakage! )
