What are COVID 19 and the coronavirus?

The coronavirus is a family of viruses that can cause a range of illnesses in humans
and animals. These viruses are known for having a outer shell composed of proteins and can
spread from person to person through droplets released when coughing or sneezing, or
through contact with contaminated surfaces and then touching one's mouth, nose, or eyes.
Coronaviruses have been known since the 1960s and have previously caused several
outbreaks of illness, such as SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) and MERS
(Middle East Respiratory Syndrome).

COVID-19, or "Coronavirus Disease 2019," is the name given to the new virus
causing the current pandemic. It was first detected in Wuhan, China in late 2019 and has
since spread globally. COVID-19 is a new type of coronavirus and has symptoms similar to
the flu, such as fever, cough, sore throat, and shortness of breath. However, some patients can
also experience more severe symptoms, such as pneumonia, which can be life-threatening.
This virus is highly contagious and requires prompt and effective control measures to help
stop its spread.
