This is a switched mode type of power supply module with 100-240 VAC
input. The power supply serves following purposes.

Output Use External Access

5 VDC For Processor and I/O modules, even No
relays on output modules are driven by
same PSU
PFNMI signal Aid for CPU house-keeping function No

This module is not recommened to use for any other application other than
powering up a Nexgen-2000 series PLC.

The power supply module is generally fixed at the left most position in the
base rack, though additional power supply module can be placed in any
other slot, depending on load current requirement.

The subsequent sections explain technical specifications and recommended

wiring of the module

3.1 LINE, NEUTRAL and EARTH connections

A clean, noise free AC supply with proper earth should be connected to

power up the PLC. The Line and Neutral to the Power Supply Module should
be preferably isolated from those of load supply by shielded isolation
transformer of minimum 20 VA rating. Earth should be connected to a good
quality factory ground. For this matter the complete PLC installation should
have a single electrical grounding point, which can be called a reference
ground. This can be either grounding point of an electrical cabinet or the
main earth bus-bar. The Earth line on module should be connected to this
ground by copper wire with a size of 1.0 mm2. This connection should be
direct, continuous and permanent.

It is recommended to use such an isolated supply exclusively for PLC power

supply only. It is suggested that isolation transformers with inter-winding
shield shall be used.

3.2 Red LED 'ON'

The red LED ‘ON’ provided on fascia of the module glows after applying AC
supply; if the power supply module is healthy i.e. 5VDC is properly
generated by the module.

3.3 Fuse Protection

This is a miniature fuse with 2 A rating provided for incoming mains

protection. It is recommended to connect a Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB)
of proper rating in series with mains as additional protection and to serve as
a manual isolator.

4. Auxiliary Power Supply Requirement

The power supply module in base rack provides 5 VDC to the Processor and
I/O modules fixed in base rack. The current rating of 5 VDC supply
generated by 2113 module is 2.5 Amp maximum, if only single power supply
module is used in the system. Each I/O module along with CPU module
draws current as per the 5 VDC consumption mentioned in the technical
specifications of each module. Around 5-10% capacity should be kept as
spare.

If total current consumption of all the modules for 5 VDC supply exceeds 2.5
Amp, auxiliary supply is required in the base rack. The same Power Supply
Module (2113) can be used for this purpose. More than one power supply
modules (2113) can be inserted in the same rack for parallel operation and
more load current can be supplied to the system. Even though 5 VDC
current rating of single power supply module is 2.5 A, when additional power
supply module (2113) is connected in parallel, the effective capacity is
reduced by 10%. For e.g. If two power supply modules (2113) are connected
in parallel, then total current drawn by the system should be less than 4.5
Amps and not (2.5 + 2.5 = 5) Amps.

One has to calculate the total current consumption of 5 VDC supply and
accordingly additional power supply module shall be selected and ordered.

5. Module Insertion and Removal from Rack

In order to ensure that user is consciously removing the module from the
rack, there is additional HV-Clip provided at top surface of the rack. This HV-
Clip is in addition to regular locking clips provided towards fascia of the
module. The HV-Clip shall be lifted using proper blade size of screw driver,
before pulling out the module from the slot.

6. Troubleshooting
The Power supply module (2113) has a red LED indication named as ‘ON’. If
this LEDs is on, then module is healthy. If this LED is off, the probable
causes are explained in table below and proper corrective action should be
taken.

LED Indication Probable Cause Remedial Action

‘ON’ LED 1. Input supply is absent Check for external problem if any. Input supply
indication is OFF should be as per specifications.
MCB may be tripped/Switch off.
2. Input supply not within Check for proper input supply as per
specified range specifications.
3. Module fuse blown. Replace the miniature fuse 2 Amp by same
type*
4. Overloading of 5 VDC supply due to –
a. Faulty Processor module Remove the Processor module from rack and
check if ‘ON’ LED is glowing. If it is glowing,
problem is due to the Processor module.
Replace it.
b. Faulty I/O module Remove all I/O modules from the rack and
then insert one by one to find out which
module is creating problem. If faulty module is
located, replace it.
c. 5 VDC current capacity is Ensure that total load on 5 VDC supply does
exceeded. not exceed the specified limit of 2.5 Amp. If the
current demand from all modules in the system
is exceeding the capacity of single PSU
module, then use auxiliary power supply
module.
5. Module defective Replace the module.

• The PSU supply module has high value capacitors which store
significant energy after power is switched off. Hence it is necessary
to wait for at least one minute before removing the module from
base rack. This is safety precaution to avoid electrical shock.

• Ensure that power is removed while replacing the 2 A miniature

fuse. To remove the fuse, remove the module from the slot and then
replace the fuse. Always replace the fuse with another fuse of same
type and same rating to maintain user and equipment safety. If the
fuse repeatedly blows, then module could be faulty.

Troubleshooting points explained in the above table are also applicable for
the auxilliary power supply module. In case, if auxilliary power supply
module has failed, then Processor module is put in STOP mode.
