Guidelines for the Safety of the user and protection of Power Supply Module
a) DESIGN ENGINEER Any engineer who is responsible for the planning, design,
and construction of automatic equipment using the product associated with this
manual should be of a competent nature, trained and qualified to the local and
national standards required to fulfill the role. These engineers should be fully
aware of all the aspects of safety with regards to automated equipment.
b) COMMISSIONING/SERVICE ENGINEER. Any engineer who is responsible for
the commissioning, use and maintenance of automatic equipment using the
product associated with this manual should be of a competent nature, trained
and qualified to the local and national standards required to fulfill the role. This
includes being completely familiar with all the associated documentation for the
said system. Maintenance to be carried out in accordance to the established
safety practices.
c) OPERATORS. The personnel using the completed equipment should be trained
to use the product in a safe and coordinated manner in compliance to
established safety practices. They should be also familiar with documentation,
which is relevant to the actual operation of the equipment.
Note: The term-completed equipment refers to a third party constructed device,
which contains or uses the product associated with this manual.
HARDWARE RELATED
1
Indicates that the identified danger WILL cause physical and property damage.
2
Indicates that the identified danger could POSSIBLY cause physical and property
damage.
3
Indicates a point of further interest or explanation.
This module is not recommened to use for any other application other than
powering up a Nexgen-2000 series PLC.
The power supply module is generally fixed at the left most position in the
base rack, though additional power supply module can be placed in any
other slot, depending on load current requirement.
2. Module Specifications
The technical specifications of the Power Supply Module are as given below.

The red LED ‘ON’ provided on fascia of the module glows after applying AC
supply; if the power supply module is healthy i.e. 5VDC is properly
generated by the module.
If total current consumption of all the modules for 5 VDC supply exceeds 2.5
Amp, auxiliary supply is required in the base rack. The same Power Supply
Module (2113) can be used for this purpose. More than one power supply
modules (2113) can be inserted in the same rack for parallel operation and
more load current can be supplied to the system. Even though 5 VDC
current rating of single power supply module is 2.5 A, when additional power
supply module (2113) is connected in parallel, the effective capacity is
reduced by 10%. For e.g. If two power supply modules (2113) are connected
in parallel, then total current drawn by the system should be less than 4.5
Amps and not (2.5 + 2.5 = 5) Amps.
One has to calculate the total current consumption of 5 VDC supply and
accordingly additional power supply module shall be selected and ordered.
6. Troubleshooting
The Power supply module (2113) has a red LED indication named as ‘ON’. If
this LEDs is on, then module is healthy. If this LED is off, the probable
causes are explained in table below and proper corrective action should be
taken.
• The PSU supply module has high value capacitors which store
significant energy after power is switched off. Hence it is necessary
to wait for at least one minute before removing the module from
base rack. This is safety precaution to avoid electrical shock.
Troubleshooting points explained in the above table are also applicable for
the auxilliary power supply module. In case, if auxilliary power supply
module has failed, then Processor module is put in STOP mode.
Warning!
Specifications of the product and contents of this manual are subject to change
without notice. This manual has been prepared taking utmost care; the performance
of the final equipment depends on many other parameters beyond any control of
Messung Systems. Messung systems do not assume any responsibility/ liability of
any damage to life or property that might result due to any malfunction due to design,
use of the equipment, using this component.
