What is caregiving?

Caregiving Tools, equipment and Paraphernalia

Tools -Anything handy. Anything that you can hold for along period of time without minding its weight.

Equipment-is a device or appliance powered with electricity and can be used for multi-tasking purposes.

Paraphernalia is any instrument that can be used in taking vital signs.

Tools and Equipment for Meal Preparation

1. Food Tongs – is an instrument used for grasping and holding food.


2. Chokitchen appliance used to slicepping board – is used to support the ingredients while cutting.
3. Knife – is used for cutting and slicing food.
4. Airpot – is a potable vacuum used for holding liquid to maintain heat or coldness.
5. Blender – is used to mix, puree, ore emulsify food, and other substances.
6. Electric Can Opener – A device used to open canned goods with ease and accuracy.
7. Coffee Maker – is an appliance that brews hot coffee automatically.
8. Food processor – is a kitchen appliance used to slice, dice, or whip food ingredients.
9. Microwave oven – used to cook or heat food.
10. Stove – is used to supply heat to be used for cooking or reheating.

For cleaning, Laundry and washing

1. Bottle sterilizer – is used to prevent the spread of microorganisms in containers like feeding
bottle through boiling.
2. Bed Pan – a receptacle made of plastic or metal used for toileting of a bedridden patient.
3. Dustpan – is used to scoop the dust that was swept.
4. Dryer – is a machine or that removes moisture through ventilation or heat.
5. Vacuum Cleaner – is a device used for cleaning floors, carpets, and furniture by sunction.
6. Dishwasher – is used for cleaning dishes, eating utensils, and pots.
7. Duster – is used in removing dirt and dust.
8. Broom – is used for sweeping dirt. It consists of twigs and bristles bound together and attached
to a handle.
9. Washing Machine – is an appliance that is used for washing clothes and linen.
10. Hanger- is used to hang garments on.
11. Flat Iron – is an appliance that used to iron, or press clothing, fabric or draperies.
12. Ironing board – is a long, narrow padded board, often with collapsible supporting legs, used to
keep the clothes flat while ironing.
13. Laundry Basket – is used for holding dirty clothes for washing or wet clothes for drying.

For Taking vital Signs


1. BP Digital Sphygmomanometer – Has a cuff that can be applied with one hand for self-testing, a
stethoscope that is built-in or attached, and a valve that inflates and deflates automatically with
the data displayed.
2. BP Apparatus Mercurial Sphygmomanometer – has a manually inflatable cuff attached by tubing
rated in millimeters of mercury.
3. Aneroid Sphygmomanometer – The aneroid monitor manually checks your blood pressure. It
has a gauge that you read by looking at a pointer on the dial. The cuff goes around your upper
arm, and you squeeze a rubber bulb to inflate it by hand.
4. Thermometer – is used to measure body temperature.
5. Stethoscope – is used for listening to the action of the heart, lungs, as well as blood flow in
arteries and veins.
