● Weak State: A state with a central government that struggles to maintain control. It might
lack public trust or have limited reach in enforcing laws, but still holds onto its territory.
● Failing State: A state on the brink of collapse. The government is increasingly dysfunctional,
with widespread corruption and inability to provide basic services. Rebel groups or militias
may challenge its authority.
● Failed State: A state that has effectively lost control. It cannot maintain law and order, its
institutions are broken, and rival factions often vie for power. These states often face
humanitarian crises and instability.
