1. PURPOSE

The purpose of this General Method Statement is to define and describe the methodology of in
NON-SHRINK CEMENTITIOUS GROUT involved in Khurais Expansion & Satellite GOSP Project.

2. SCOPE

This method statement covers NON-SHRINK CEMENTITIOUS GROUT. This document defines
details of activities involved, quality requirements, HSE requirement, methodology and
inspection/ testing requirements.

5. METHODOLOGY/ WORK EXECUTION PROCEDURE

Work permits shall be secured prior to commencement of NON-SHRINK CEMENTITIOUS GROUT

5.1 NON-SHRINK GROUT

SURFACE PREPARATION

 Foundation preparation shall be in accordance with the grout manufacturer's

written instructions. (PIP STS03600, Sec 6.2 .1)
 Concrete foundations shall be cured for a minimum of 7 days before surface
preparations for grouting. (PIP STS03600, Sec. 6.2.2)
 Laitance, oil-soaked or damaged concrete shall be removed down to sound concrete
by chipping to the level of sound fractured aggregate or to a minimum of the top 1
inch (25mm) of the concrete.(PIP STS03600, Sec. 6.2.1.1)
 All dust and loose particles shall be removed with clean, dry, oil free compressed air.
(PIP STS03600, Sec. 6.2.1.2)
 Grout formwork, where required, shall be constructed with adequate strength,
rigidity and required dimensions to permit grout placement and avoid leakage. (PIP
STS03600, Sec. 6.2.3)
 Elevation of the formworks shall be check to ensure that the top surface of the
grout will match the elevation shown on the construction drawings. (PIP STS03601,
Sec. 3.12.4)
 A bond breaker shall be applied to the formwork that will be in contact with the
grout. (PIP STS03600, Sec. 6.2.4)
 After cleaning, the foundation shall be protected with 0.15mm polyethylene
sheeting to prevent contamination. (PIP STS03600, Sec. 6.2.1.3)
 Concrete surfaces in contact with the grout shall be saturated for 2-6 hrs. with clean
water before grout placement. The surface shall be damp but free from standing
water. (PIP STS03600, Sec. 6.2.5)
 Joints in the grout shall be located as shown in the drawings or as recommended by
the manufacturer. (PIP STS03600, Sec. 6.2.6)
 Only Approved Material shall be used for Grouting.
 Formwork shall be consistent to the Base plate height.
 This MS applicable only for Non Shrinkage Grouting General Material applications

MIXING AND PLACEMENT

 Grout shall be mixed, placed and cured in accordance with Approved

Manufacturer's written requirement.
 Sub-Contractor GECAT shall read, understand and comply with the Approved
Manufacturer's instructions. (ASTM C 1107, Sec. 8.1.1 & 8.3, PIP STS03600, Sec.
6.3.1)

SAMPLING, TESTING

 Sampling and testing shall be performed by a Saudi Aramco approved independent

testing laboratory.
 Third Party Agency's Quality personnel assigned to the Work must be technically
competent to perform their duties.
 Two sets of three test cubes shall be casted in the field for each day that grout is
mixed and placed. (PIP STS03600, Sec. 4.2.1.1)
 Compressive strength of cubes shall be tested in accordance with applicable
provisions of ASTM C 109. One cube shall be tested set at 7 days and one cube set at
28 days. (PIP STS03600, Sec. 4.2.1.3)
 The compressive strength of the grout shall be a minimum of24MPa (3500psi) at 7
days of age. (ASTM C 1107, Sec. 8., Table I)
 The compressive strength of the grout shall be a minimum of35MPa (5000psi) at 28
days of age. (PIP STS03600 Sec. 4.2.1)
 For standard temperature testing, maintain the grout mixture and the testing
equipment at a temperature of73.4 +/- 5°F (23 +/- 3°C). (ASTM C 1107, Sec. 8.1.2)
 Non Shrink Grout Mixing, Placing, Testing shall follow Manufacturer Product
Technical Data sheet and Aramco Standards.

CURING

 When the grout's water/cement ratio is 0.4 or less, the grout shall be given a
continuous water cure (covered by wet burlap and 0.15mm polyethylene) for a
minimum of 7 days. (ASTM C309, Sec. 5.1)
 Curing compounds if allowed by project specifications shall have test reports or
certificate showing that it is in compliance with ASTM C309.

FINAL INSPECTION

 The grout shall be tooled to a 45 Degree angle down from the bottom of base plates
after it has reached its initial set. (PIP STS03600, Sec. 6.3.5)

6. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY

It’s the responsibilities of Sub Contractor Gecat, Quality and Safety Teams to ensure that all the
relevant requirements, specifications and standards are followed during the execution of the
work

Project Manager

Project Manager will be responsible for the overall implementation and monitoring of all
activities in the method of statement for Non-shrink Cementitious Grout.

Site Manager

Site Manager will be responsible for the overall direction, monitoring coordination and control
of all the construction activities attached and related to the Non-shrink Cementitious Grout and
overall health and safety standards and procedures.

Site Engineer

Site Engineer will be responsible for the overall implementation and monitoring of all the
activities involve in Non-shrink Cementitious Grout including safety measures and mitigation
from his work place. Application for work permits if required prior to commence of any
demolition.

Supervisor/Foremen

Supervisor/Foremen will be responsible:

 Having knowledge and direction of work’s activities and planning at site, and directly
imparted people to do what is the best way to achieve the assigned task

 Conduct safety briefing prior to commence daily activities and give information and
guidance to newly hired workers.
 Report any incident, accident, unsafe condition and defects in equipment to immediate
superiors.
 Provide correct action of safety among his people i.e horse play, bullying and other
unsafe acts.
 Incorporate safety procedures in routine tasks and see that they are obeyed.
 Set a personal example to his people

Surveyor

Shall be responsible for the benchmarks and setting of points, including the
elevations in accordance with approved drawing reference documents.

HSE Officer/ Supervisor

Safety Officer/ Supervisor shall be responsible for:

 Review prior to the start of the work Safe Work Plan.

 To Implement daily and specific safety program at the work place and ensure all
working activities comply with the established safety rules, regulations and
procedures as safe working practices.
 To provide instructions on task and responsibility for safe and correct working
practices and tool box talk.
 Securing confined space requirement.
 Any near miss accidents or incidents should be immediately reported to the Site
Manager or Project Manager and submitting the report recommending actions to be
taken to prevent recurrence.

8. GENERAL HSE/ SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Safety measure during the execution of work shall be strictly implemented and observed. Gecat
Limited Co. safety department shall by then without excuses to implement the safety rules,
regulations and ensure that all personnel involve in the execution of work shall brief and explain
the implanting rules

 All personnel should wear proper PPE.

 Area must be provided with barricade.
 Install necessary signage and other precautionary measures.
 Provide safe means of access and egress to work place.
 Where multiple activities are carries Flagman must be assign with moving
construction equipment's.
 All operators and equipment’s should have valid documents as per Saudi Aramco and
SAIPEM Requirements.
 MSDS shall be available in storage, handling & usage area.
 All control measures shall be in place as per MSDS.
 Chemical hazard bulletin shall be issued for communicating with work groups.
 PPE shall be provided and used as per work and MSDS requirements.
 Ensure appropriate permit has been obtained.
