SAMPLE LESSON PLAN

Focus: Doctrine
Topic: The Church is Christ’s Mystical Body
Aspect: I am Part of Christ’s Mystical Body
Level: Grade 6
Time Frame: 45 minutes

Christian Message:
D- In God’s loving plan, He wants us to know that the Church is the Mystical Body of Christ.
Jesus Christ is the head.
M- Strive to be good and responsible members of the Church.
W- Lord Jesus, teach us always to be good members of the church.
Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to:
a. [D]Identify themselves as parts of the mystical body of Christ, the Church;
b. [M] Enumerate ways on how to be good members of the Church.
c. [W] Pray, Lord Jesus, teach us always to be good members of the church.
Sources:
1. Scripture: “Now all the believers lived together and shared all their belonging. “ [Acts
2:44]. God has arranged all the members, placing each part of the body as pleased. If all
were the same part where would the body be?” [1 Cor. 12:18].
2. Church Teaching. The Church is a society structured with hierarchical organs and the
mystical body of Christ. “ [CCC 771] One becomes member of this Church not only a
physical birth, but by faith in Christ, and baptism.” [CCC 782].

Phase 1. Activity

Broken Figure Puzzle. Prepare cut objects. Cut the cartolina into smaller parts of unequal
sizes. Let them assemble all the parts into its original size within 10 minutes.

Deepening:
This activity teaches us that each one in the group is important, just as each part of the
body is important. A bod is composed of different parts which has its specific
functions.

Phase 3. Exposition of Christian Message


The Church is the mystical body of Christ. Christ is the head of the church; we are its members.
Each one of us as member of the body of Christ has its specific functions. What will happen to
the body if one is malfunctioning? Have you not asked yourself what can you do to the Church?
We are called to do our specific tasks as responsible members of the Church. Turn to your right
and say to him or her, “You are a member of the Church, please do your duty”. Let us pray:
Lord Jesus, teach us always to be good members of the church.
In what way can we become good member of the Church?
1. Believe that Christ is our God.
2. Observe the Church laws.
3. Give due respect to our Church leaders like priests and bishop.
4. Listen to Christ’s teachings proclaimed by the church leaders.
5. Attend church assembly, meeting, and MAKALIPANG prayer sessions lead by the Tolda
Leader.
St. Paul said that God arranged all the members, placing them each part of the body as he
pleased. Church authorities also stressed that church is a society structured with hierarchical
organs and the mystical body of Christ, the visible society and the spiritual community. The
earthly church and the church endowed with heavenly riches. [CCC 771]. It is stressed further
that one becomes member of this church not by physical birth, but by faith in Christ, and by
baptism, [CCC 782].
Phase 4. Integration

The church is the mystical body of Christ and each one of us is a member. St. Paul emphasizes
that all of us are member of the church. Experience tells us that each part of the body is
important and has its specific function.
