Rx/Tx Architectures – 2
Problem 1: For the receiver architecture shown below, determine the required IRR of the
image reject filter to attenuate an image by 30 dB. The selection filter quality factor is 20 at a
center frequency of 900 MHz.
Problem 2: (Razavi: p4.8) Suppose an AM signal, A(t) cosωct, is applied to a single mixer
driven by an LO:
(a) If the LO waveform is given by cosωct, determine the baseband signal.
(b) If the LO waveform is given by sinωct, what happens? Why does this indicate the need
for quadrature down conversion?
Problem 3: (Razavi: se4.18) The following figure shows a method of suppressing the dc
offsets in the baseband after the last mixing stage. Calculate the corner frequency of the circuit.

Problem 4: (Razavi: p4.20) The following figure shows three variants of the Hartley
architecture. Explain which one(s) can reject the image.
Problem 5: (Razavi: p4.29) In the following OOK Tx architectures, explain why injection
pulling is more serious in (b) than in (a)
