Answer the following questions:

1. Differentiate Qualitative and Quantitative Research. (10pts)

- Quantitative research is concerned with numbers and figures, whereas qualitative research is concerned
with words and their meanings. Quantitative approaches allow you to measure variables and test
hypotheses in a systematic manner. Qualitative approaches allow you to delve deeper into thoughts and
experiences.

2. Enumerate and discuss the 4 most common qualitative method of research. (40 pts)

4 MOST COMMON QUALITATIVE METHOD OF RESEARCH

 Grounded theory involves collecting data in order to develop new theories.

 Ethnography involves immersing yourself in a group or organization to understand its
culture.
 Narrative research involves interpreting stories to understand how people make sense
of their experiences and perceptions.
 Phenomenological research involves investigating phenomena through people's lived
experiences.

3. Enumerate and discuss at least 4 types of Descriptive method of research. (40 pts)

- DESCRIPTIVE METHODS OF RESEARCH

 Case study- because capture a range of perspectives, as opposed to the single view of an
individual you get with a survey response or interview. This gives the opportunity to gain a
greater understanding of the subject in hand and reduces the potential for any bias, by diluting
the agenda of a particular individual.
 Surveys- is "the collecting of information from a sample of individuals through their responses to
questions". This form of research allows for a range of approaches for recruiting individuals,
collecting data, and utilizing various instrumentation methods.
 Developmental Studies- as opposed to simple instructional development, has been defined as
"the systematic study of designing, developing and evaluating instructional programs, processes,
and products that must meet the criteria of internal consistency and effectiveness"
 Assessment or Evaluation studies- also known as program evaluation, refers to research purpose
instead of a specific method. Evaluation research is the systematic assessment of the worth or
merit of time, money, effort and resources spent in order to achieve a goal.
4. Discuss the difference between Experimental method of research and the descriptive method of research.
(30 pts)
- The main difference between descriptive and experimental research is that the descriptive
research describes the characteristics of the study group or a certain occurrence while the
experimental research manipulates the variables to arrive at conclusions.

5. What are the advantages of correlational studies? (10 pts)

Advantages of Relationship (Correlational) Studies:

A. It is easy to identify the variable; likewise, it is easy to generate data.

B. The methods are easily identifiable since there are definite statistical method and techniques for them.

C. Some authors use Person r correlation coefficient for finding the relationship; then, testing its
significance, and proceeding to regression analysis to determine the amount of variations in y due to x for
predictive purposes.

D. The variables are tenable for complex multivariate analysis and for predictor selection. Linear
regression is viewed by many as an "elegant statistical method."
