MATH PRAYER
Lord, we thank you a hundredfold
for the infinite love and care that
You have given us. May we, in
return, multiply it with love and
respect and add more faith.
Subtract the worldly desires and
evil works in our minds and hearts
and divide Your given talents to
all of us. To sum it all, may we be
united as one in Your family.
Amen.

Trapezoid
-is a quadrilateral which has exactly one pair of parallel sides.
➢ The parallel sides are called the bases of
the trapezoid .
B C ➢ The non- parallel sides are referred to as
the legs of the trapezoid.
➢ A trapezoid has two pairs of base angles.
➢ An altitude of a trapezoid is a segment
drawn from any point on one base
perpendicular to the other base.
A D ➢ The line segment that joins the midpoints
of the legs of a trapezoid is called its
midline.
Trapezoid Midline Theorem
The midline of a trapezoid is parallel to the bases and has a
length equal to one-half the sum of the lengths of the bases.

FORMULA:
𝟏
𝑴𝑳 = 𝑩𝟏 + 𝑩𝟐
𝟐
𝑩𝟏 - base 1
𝑩𝟐 - base 2
Example 1:
The midsegment of the trapezoid KLMN is 𝑶𝑷
Find the length of 𝑶𝑷.
Solution:
𝟏
𝑶𝑷 = 𝑲𝑵 + 𝑳𝑴
𝟐
1
= 35 + 25
2
1
= 60
2
𝑶𝑷 = 30
The length of 𝑶𝑷 is 30 cm.
Example 2:
The midsegment of the trapezoid OVER is 𝑨𝑩. If 𝑽𝑬 = 14 and 𝑶𝑹 =
32, what is the length of 𝑨𝑩.

Solution:
𝟏 V E
AB = 𝑽𝑬 + 𝑶𝑹
𝟐

2
AB = 23
TRY THIS!

Properties of Isosceles Trapezoids
• The base angles of an isosceles trapezoid are congruent. If
trapezoid QRST is isosceles then ∠𝑅 ≅ ∠𝑆, and ∠𝑄 ≅ ∠T.

Properties of Isosceles Trapezoids
• The diagonals of an isosceles trapezoid are congruent. In
isosceles trapezoid ABCD, if 𝑩𝑫 and 𝑪𝑨 are diagonals, then
𝑩𝑫 ≅ 𝑪𝑨.

B C Diagonals:
𝑩𝑫 ≅ 𝑪𝑨

𝑨𝑩 ≅ 𝑪𝑫
Example:
FGHJ is an isosceles trapezoid. Find the length of 𝐺𝐸 if
HF = 17.5 cm and EF = 9.6 cm.
Solution: G H
Because 𝐺𝐽 and 𝐻𝐹 are the diagonals of
an isosceles trapezoid, they are E
congruent.
GE = HF - EF
GE = 17.5 – 9.6
F J
GE = 7.9

The length of 𝐺𝐸 is 7.9 cm.

Given: Trapezoid MATH is an isosceles with median
𝑋𝑌 = 14, 𝐴𝑇 = 3𝑥 + 3, 𝑀𝐻 = 6𝑥 − 2 and 𝑀𝑋 = 6.

B. 39.11 cm D. 48.0 cm
KITE
-A quadrilateral with exactly two pairs of
congruent consecutive sides.
PROPERTIES OF KITES
• The diagonals of a kite are perpendicular.
𝑲𝑴 ⊥ 𝑳𝑵 at 𝑶
• One diagonal divides the kite into 2 congruent triangles.
∆𝑲𝑳𝑴 ≅ ∆𝑲𝑵𝑴
• One diagonal divides the kite into 2 isosceles triangles.
∆𝑲𝑳𝑵 ≅ ∆𝑴𝑳𝑵 are isosceles triangles
• One diagonal bisects the other diagonal.
𝑲𝑴 bisects 𝑳𝑵. So 𝑳𝑶 ≅ 𝑵𝑶.
• The kite has one pair of opposite angles congruent.
∠𝑳 ≅ ∠𝑵 𝒐𝒓 ∠𝑲𝑳𝑴 ≅ ∠𝑲𝑵𝑴
Examples:
a. Find 𝑚∠𝑃 and 𝑚∠𝑅 in kite PQRS.
Solution:
The sum of the measures of all the angles of
the kite is 360.
Therefore,
𝑚∠𝑃 + 𝑚∠𝑅 = 360° – (100° + 48°)
∠𝑃 ≅ ∠𝑅
212
Thus, 𝒎∠𝑷 = = 𝟏𝟎𝟔°.
2
𝒎∠𝑹 = 𝟏𝟎𝟔°
b. Find the value of the variable x in the given kite at the
right. Because the diagonals of a kite are perpendicular,
(2𝑥 + 8)° 𝑎𝑛𝑑 (5𝑥 − 2)° are complementary.
Solution:
(2𝑥 + 8)° + (5𝑥 − 2)° = 90.
7𝑥 + 6 = 90
7𝑥 = 90 - 6
7𝑥 84

𝑥 = 12
