I. Objectives
a. Give the meaning of equation
b. Write simple equation
B. Definition of Terms
Understanding the meaning of an equation involves recognizing that it
represents a relationship between quantities. An equation typically shows that
two expressions are equal.
Example:
3 x + 5 = 17
To solve this equation at a grade 6 level, we can follow these steps:
1. Subtract 5 from both sides to isolate the term with x: 3x=12.
2. Then, divide both sides by 3 to solve for x:x=4.
So, in this case, x=4. We can check by substituting x=4 back into the original
equation:
3 (4) + 5 = 17
12 + 5 = 17
17 = 17
The equation is satisfied, confirming that x=4 is indeed the solution.
