Discernment of God
Discernment of God
To dispose yourself for your prayer, spend a few moments of silence and
acknowledge the presence of God. While you recall and relish God's presence and
companionship in your life, watch and listen to the lyric video of the song "I Am
Ever with You."
Scripture Passage:
Exodus 33:14
And he said, "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."
Discernment of God's presence has to do with the Ignatian ideals of "Finding God
in All Things" and being a "Contemplative in Action." This kind of discernment
requires that we constantly "look out" and proactively seek and establish where
God is present and alive in our daily lives. God dwells in creatures: in the elements
giving them existence, in the plants giving them life, in the animals conferring
upon them sensation. Moreover, God dwells in man and woman, bestowing
understanding. So, He dwells in us and gives us being, life, sensation, intelligence;
and makes a temple of us since we are created in the likeness and image of the
Divine Majesty (from Contemplatio Ad Amorem of the SpEx). Therefore, we are
not alone. God is with us in joy and pain, in blessing and sorrow, while we are
awake and asleep. He is always with us because He dwells in us.
Almighty and loving God, I thank you for always being with me. My constant and
profound awareness of your presence in my life assures me that you are always
there to love me no matter what happens. Amen.
