A. General:
All pipes, fittings, gaskets, closure doors and valves are sourced from SAES-L-420,
A2 Y
approved sources, per Regulated Vendors List. Para 5.6
Lifting capacity of scraper loading device is not < 900 kg for line sizes up SAES-L-420,
A6 Y
to 36" and not less than 1800 kg for larger diameter lines. Para 8.8
Clearance between the bottom of the trap and finished grade in onshore SAES-L-420,
A8 Y
plants, is approximately 1 m. Para 9.4
SAES-L-420,
A surface drainage system is provided to collect any spill from the trap
A9 Sec. 9, (8.4) Para Y
and wash water.
9.4
Unless more up-to-date information is available on the type of
SAES-L-420,
instrumented scraper, the trap length should be based on the maximum
A10 Appendix A,
scraper lengths for normal and for instrumented scrapers listed in
Para. A.3
Attachment 1.
Scraper passage indicator (SPI) are bi-directional, give positive
indication of scraper passage, and are not solely dependent on a SAES-L-420,
A11
superficial or painted marking or other method, that can become Para 8.6
obliterated.
SPI is designed for manual reset and allows replacement of all moving SAES-L-420,
A12
parts with pressure in the line. Para 8.6
A tieline valve at the branch of the tee, at the minimum practical distance SAES-L-420,
A20
from the mainline is provided Para 6.4
A bypass line between tieline valve and trap, with a kicker valve and a
SAES-L-420,
A21 second block valve, to provide tight shut-off in the bypass line, is
Para 6.5
provided.
Small size pressure equalizing valve around the trap isolation valve and SAES-L-420,
A22
around the kicker valve, is provided. Para 6.6
A small size equalizing line with locked open block valve is provided to
connect the small diameter end of the trap with the other end, to prevent
SAES-L-420,
A23 unwanted pressure differential when a scraper seals off the narrow part
Para 6.6
of the trap. NOTE: The equalizing valves are suitable for throttling and
give tight shut off.
A double valve drain system sized to permit drainage of the trap within
approximately 15 minutes, is provided. SAES-L-420,
A24
NOTE: A check valve shall be installed if back flow from the disposal Para 6.8
system could otherwise occur.
A sampling connection is installed at the bottom of the scraper receiver,
SAES-L-420,
A25 if connections with valves for the injection of chemicals at launching Y
Para 6.11
stations are required.
A pressure gauge is provided near the trap closure, and another one on SAES-L-420,
A26 Y
the mainline near the trap isolation valve. Para 6.12
Generally, the scraper trap is oriented as away from any critical SAES-L-420,
A29 Y
equipment as possible, Para 9.2.1
For on-land and near shore pipelines, the distance between critical plant SAES-L-420,
A30 Y
equipment measured from the closure door, is not less than 45 m, Para 9.2.2
B. Branch Connections:
02-SAMSS-009,
B1 Branch connections shall either be welded, forged or extruded. N/A
Para. 6.3.1
Saudi Aramco: Company General Use
Reinforcing pads required by the specified code are fully welded and
02-SAMSS-009,
B2 provided with a 3 mm-6 mm vent hole. The Weep hole is filled with Y

heavy grease.
Threaded branch connections are seal welded up to the first valve.
02-SAMSS-009,
B3 NOTE: The seal weld covers all exposed threads after the joint has been N/A
Para. 6.3.4
tightened to full thread engagement.
If the pipeline is designed for bi-directional flow service, a check valve SAES-L-410,
D1
and a parallel block valve shall be installed. Para. 16.2
If a check valve was installed on an existing outgoing pipeline which will
SAES-L-410,
D2 be converted to bi-directional flow, the block valve can be installed on
Para. 16.2
the by-pass and the check valve left on the main line.
For the design of a new pipeline in bi-directional flow, the check valve SAES-L-410,
D3
shall be installed on the by-pass. Para. 16.2
