Para 5.1
spheres), is same as identified during the Project Proposal stage.

All pipes, fittings, gaskets, closure doors and valves are sourced from SAES-L-420,

Saudi Aramco: Company General Use

The pipeline system has provisions to control the velocity of the scraper
SAES-L-420,
A16 at all times, and to receive and dispose of liquid slugs and/or solids
Para 5.3
brought in by the scraper.
Scraper trap station is designed for bi-directional scraping, in case:
a) The pumping is in either direction (shuttle lines). SAES-L-420,
A17
b) The source of water and/or the disposal site of water used for Para 5.5
hydrostatic testing may be on either end of the pipeline.
Scraper trap station piping for on-stream scraping operations is in
SAES-L-420,
A18 accordance with Standard Drawing AC-036541 (P&ID), (see Attachment
Sec. 6
3).
For a barred tee in the mainline, the distance between centerline of
SAES-L-420,
A19 branch and near end of trap isolation valve, is kept to a minimum and, if
Para 6.3
more than three pipe diameters, is sloped back to the branch.

A tieline valve at the branch of the tee, at the minimum practical distance SAES-L-420,
A20
from the mainline is provided Para 6.4

A bypass line between tieline valve and trap, with a kicker valve and a
SAES-L-420,
A21 second block valve, to provide tight shut-off in the bypass line, is
Para 6.5
provided.

Small size pressure equalizing valve around the trap isolation valve and SAES-L-420,
A22
around the kicker valve, is provided. Para 6.6

A small size equalizing line with locked open block valve is provided to
connect the small diameter end of the trap with the other end, to prevent
SAES-L-420,
A23 unwanted pressure differential when a scraper seals off the narrow part
Para 6.6
of the trap. NOTE: The equalizing valves are suitable for throttling and
give tight shut off.
A double valve drain system sized to permit drainage of the trap within
approximately 15 minutes, is provided. SAES-L-420,
A24
NOTE: A check valve shall be installed if back flow from the disposal Para 6.8
system could otherwise occur.
A sampling connection is installed at the bottom of the scraper receiver,
SAES-L-420,
A25 if connections with valves for the injection of chemicals at launching Y
Para 6.11
stations are required.

A pressure gauge is provided near the trap closure, and another one on SAES-L-420,
A26 Y
the mainline near the trap isolation valve. Para 6.12

Scraper passage indicators are installed:

a) on the mainline, one scraper length downstream and beyond the
barred tee on each launcher; SAES-L-420,
A27 Y
b) near the small diameter side of the reducer on each receiver; Para 6.13
c) at approximately 1.5 km upstream of onshore receiver stations if
required by the Operating Department.
If scraper trap is provided at the end of pipeline near an on-shore plant
area , it is in a scraper trap area inside of the plant SSD fence. SAES-L-420,
A28 Y
NOTE: The lateral piping between trap and plant shall be constructed Para 9.1
above grade, except as permitted per SAES-L-310.

Generally, the scraper trap is oriented as away from any critical SAES-L-420,
A29 Y
equipment as possible, Para 9.2.1

For on-land and near shore pipelines, the distance between critical plant SAES-L-420,
A30 Y
equipment measured from the closure door, is not less than 45 m, Para 9.2.2

Onshore and offshore scraper trap is oriented such that no equipment

nor above grade piping, is within a sectorial area, 45 m radius by 20 SAES-L-420,
A31 Y
degrees, (10 degrees to each side of the centerline of the trap) from the Para 9.2.3
closure door.
Platforms are provided for easy access to valve actuators and closure
SAES-L-420,
A32 operating mechanism. Y
Para 9.3
NOTE: All valves shall be accessible from one side of the trap.
At all scraper trap stations, the piping that cross connects the upstream
SAES-L-420,
A33 and downstream pipelines, and associated kicker and equalizer lines,
Para 9.5
shall be constructed above grade.
The SPI on receivers is located 150 mm upstream of the reducer. The SAES-L-420,
A34 distance from the centerline of the kicker line to the attachment weld of Appendix A.
the closure door collar, does not exceed one trap diameter. Para. A.5

and a parallel block valve shall be installed. Para. 16.2
If a check valve was installed on an existing outgoing pipeline which will
SAES-L-410,
