COURSE DESCRIPTION

Bioenergetics explains how energy is generated, converted from one form to another, utilized and regulated in the living or

Purpose:

The aim of this course is to acquire the knowledge of how energy is generated and utilized in the living cell

Learning objectives:

By the end of the semester, students should be able to:

1. Explain bioenergetics,

2. Categorize cellular activities that require energy,


3. Know energy sources in the Biosphere,

4. Realize that the universe is made up of system and surroundings,

5. Know that energy can neither be created nor destroyed but can be converted from one form to
another,

6. Explain chemical potentials,

7. Recognize high-energy compounds,

8. Explain biological oxidation-reduction reactions and

9. Explain oxidative phosphorylation and photophosphorylation.
