Purpose & Definition

In logistical processes it is often necessary to interchange parts. SAP provided interchange

material.

Parts interchangeability compromises the following function :

• Restricted or one-way interchangeable parts
• Material exchange functions
• Supersession

FFF Class

Definition
Grouping fully interchangeable parts that have identical technical properties in terms of form, fit, and
function.

Use
FFF class is used as a “link” to group fully interchangeable, inventory-managed manufacturer parts.

Structure
• FFF class is represented in the system by a part with material type FFFC
• Part contains the “header data” of the FFF class
• FFF class is not inventory-managed and cannot be procured
• Material master record has only a Basic Data

Using FFF Class, we can exchange one

Restricted Interchangeability

One-way
Restricted Interchangeability allowing us to exchange one
interchangeable
parts to another, but it can’t be reversible
or restricted

Ex : 4711 can be replaced by 4712, but 4712 can’t be

replaced by 4711

Supersession Chain

Material : 4711
Supersession Chain allow us to fully replace a discontinue
parts with a other parts starting from certain period.
Replaced By

Ex :
Material : 4712
• Material 4711 replaced by 4712 starting from 01 March
Valid From : 01 March 2020 2020, means 4711 can no longer be used in
transaction since the date.
Replaced By • Another replacement will be occurred from 25 July
2020 for 4713 replacing 4712. On this date, 4711 and
4712 can no longer be used.

• Material Type : FFFC
• Maintain Material View with Basic Data1
and Basic Data 2
• Mnf Part Profle : IMPN

Notes:
• Use a general code & description for this
FFF Group material since it will not be
used in any transaction (Only for grouping
the materials)
• Please use only FFFC material type as
standard material type for FFF Group

FFF Group Maintenance

Once FFF Class material has been created,

we can continue to maintain its content in
tcode ‘PIC01’.

• Put FFF Class and click on button “Full

Interchangeability”
• List all material that can replace each
other

Pre-requisite of FFF Class
Setting for FFF material data checking

We can validate FFF Group material list by comparison of material data.

For example, FFF Group can only consist material with same Material
Group, or same Material Type, and so on.
Please remember, this setting can only be done in configuration level
We can find the setting in SPRO  Logistics General 
Interchangeability of Parts  Determine Common Fields of Parts

By default, no field taken as validation checking criteria. We can turn it on

by Set ‘X’ to the field we want to consider.

We can also add fields to be consider if it hasn’t listed yet in standard.

Notes: Once we activated Interchangeability, we better put ‘09’ in

MRP-MPN Set

Definition
• Material Requirement Planning Set (MPN-MRP set) are a subset of the inventory-managed
manufacturer parts in one FFF class and should be treated as fully interchangeable parts in MRP,
inventory management, and the availability check.

• MPN-MRP set has exactly one leading part that represents this MPN-MRP set from the MRP view
