Department of Education
REGION VIII
SCHOOLS DIVISION OF NORTHERN SAMAR
I. General Program Information

1.1 Title: IN-SERVICE TRAINING: “ INTEGRATION OF COMPREHENSIVE SEXUALITY EDUCATION (CSE) IN THE K TO 12
BASIC EDUCATION CURRICULUM” and “CATCH-UP FRIDAYS”

1.1 Rationale
The Comprehensive Sexual Education (CSE) training acknowledges the transformative implications of DepEd Order No. 31, s.
2018. This order propels the discourse beyond the traditional bounds of sexual education, emphasizing the imperative of age-
appropriate, culturally sensitive content. The training program aims to empower teachers with the nuance skills required to facilitate
open and informed discussions on a spectrum of topics from relationships and consent to reproductive health. By embracing the
guidelines set forth by DepEd, Teachers at Lao-angan Elementary School, Pagsang-an Elementary School, Lubog Primary School and
Ginagdanan Elementary School, will be equipped with a learning environment that not only imparts factual information but also fosters
a comprehensive understanding of sexual health and well-being.
Teenage pregnancies, increasing number of HIV patient among young Filipinos has brought more attention to the need of school
to integrate CSE and appropriate life skills that would enable them to make responsible decision-making and respectful behavior that
will protect their health, well-being, and dignity.
DepEd is committed to implementing Comprehensive Sexuality Education with relevant curriculum that protects and promotes
the right of learners to health education, information, and care. Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) is a curriculum-based
process of teaching and learning about cognitive, emotional, physical, and social aspects of sexuality that is scientific, age and
developmentally appropriate and gender responsive, and with rights-based approach. DepEd Order no. 31, s.2018 known as Policy
Guidelines on the Implementation of the Comprehensive Sexuality Education provides that rationale, legal basis, guiding principles,
mechanisms and procedures shall assist teachers, school principals, and other education stakeholders in their endeavors to make
teaching and learning more relevant, meaningful, and useful to learners.

Furthermore, the in-service training will meticulously traverse the mandates encapsulated in the DepEd Memorandum No. 001
s, 2024 known as Implementation of Catch-Up Fridays, to provide the learners the opportunity to fully enjoy the benefits of being an
independent reader and becoming a responsible and productive citizen. As the memorandum is aimed at producing quality learners, we
therefore will make sure that our teachers will be equipped with the knowledge of how to appropriately comply with the mandate.
Pursuant to DepEd Order No. 22, s. 2023 titled Implementing Guidelines on the School Calendar and Activities for SY 2023-
2024, the Midyear break is scheduled for January 24-30, 2024. These dated will be devoted for the midyear performance and evaluation
of school-based personnel, evaluation of the school progress attained in the implementation of the programs, projects and activities and
the conduct of the school-Based In-Service Training (INSET) for the continuing professional development based on their individual and
group development needs.
By systematically having this training Lao-angan ES, Pagsang-an ES, Lubog PS and Ginagdanan ES, will not only elevate their
instructional competencies but also epitomize the role of proactive contributors to the holistic development of their learners which is the
center of all endeavor in the Department of Education MATATAG Agenda.
