SUBJECT: BMC 302- OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT PROFESSOR: Ma’am Emie Alias
REFLECTION PAPER
Topic: CHAPTER 2 Competitiveness, Strategy, and Productivity
As one of the reporters in this topic, I have learned about the different ways companies compete and why some firms do a very good job of competing. I have learned how effective strategies can lead to competitive organizations, what productivity is, why it is important, and what organizations can do to improve it. Upon reviewing the lesson for todays’ report, I found out that these topics are similar to what I had taken from my past subjects. In the world of business, you will encounter similar circumstances but it is in the way how you are going to deal with them. Developing your missions and visions, your goals and strategies and tactics, and reviewing them in order for your business to find an edge in the marketplace, because if not, you are bound to fail. It was discussed by my companion as to why some companies or organizations fail. It was also mentioned that in strategy formulation, you have to take into account your company’s core competencies, and environmental scanning where revieing your PESTLE AND SWOT analysis is a must. These two include key internal and external factors which was explained further by our professor. I also discussed about the importance of a balanced scorecard which can be used to clarify an organization’s vison and strategies, and transform them into actions, and the implications of organization strategy for operations management The factors that affect productivity and how can we improve them. My simple mathematical skills were even utilized in computing productivity. I hope my classmates understood them well, as I believe this is not the first time, they encountered those formulas so I thought I just have to provide them some brief examples. Overall, I believe, our time was utilized well, and I learned much this day, and hoping to learn more in the future.
