Enhancing the School Security with the utilization of Arduino Uno

as a Student ID Scanning System

Schools are known to be our second home, a safe place where we can study. However,
some cases around the world have shown reports about unwanted visitors getting inside their
schools, disturbing their students. In order to address this problem, a strict security system must
be implemented to ensure a safe and secure environment for students to study. Therefore, to
approach this issue, a modern security system will help to ensure that only school students will
be able to enter and exit.

Most of the reported cases from around the world are about the security of their school,
and how unwanted visitors have gotten access inside the school having unclear intentions
making the students uneasy, disturbing the concerns of their parents. In Montgomery County,
Ohio, an unwanted visitor at multiple area schools is leaving parents concerned. Another report
in Camarines Sur were stated that some teachers of a school were “robbed and even molested”
by burglars who were able to enter the school premises. Thus, making this a global issue that
must be met with the aim of making the schools a safer environment.

Global cases that has been stated has alarmed other schools. Whereas elementary and
high school students were most affected. There have been some effective attempts engaging this
matter in other regions. However, these interventions have yet to have a significant impact on
school security. When not given an action, the condition of the students can be affected, and
contribute to the concerns of the parents.

The aim of this study is to propose an effective action regards to solving this problem. An
innovative device such as Arduino Uno, can be used as a modern way of enhancing school
security. In a way that it can be programmed as a scanning device and only providing access to
those students who are enrolled in the school. With the help of this program, strict
implementation of “No ID, No Entry” can also be affected as the students’ ID has a contribution
on having access inside schools. This study also solves the problem of consuming time checking
the attendance as it can already be recorded once the ID is scanned. Through this study, we can
now start to pave our way on a safer and more secure learning environment.
