REPORT ON CYBER PHYSICAL SYSTEM FOR SMART CITY

APPLICATION

Introduction:
Smart city is defined as a city which functions by integrating ICT, infrastructures,
intelligent devices to ensure sustainability. A typical smart city setup involves
facilities equipped with smart and state-of-the-art technology which includes
smart transportation, smart energy, smart education, smart healthcare, smart
sanitation and waste management, and smart governance, etc.

In the present era of technological advancements, almost everything is

converging into digitalization. In the same manner, the word “smart” is being
applied everywhere and in every field0. With the rapid growth in the economy,
the role of digitalization is highly critical to upgrade infrastructural support
including physical, societal and institutional. This transformation is seen as a
probable solution to several inherent and obvious city problems since it focuses
on smart governance, smart IT and Communication, smart environment, smart
buildings, smart businesses, and smart transportation, etc.
Cyber Physical system for Smart city applications:
A Cyber-Physical System (CPS) is a system that integrates physical and
computational components to monitor and control the physical processes
seamlessly. In other words, A cyber-physical system is a collection of computing
devices communicating with one another and interacting with the physical world
via sensors and actuators in a feedback loop. These systems combine the sensing,
actuation, computation, and communication capabilities, and leverage these to
improve the physical systems’ overall performance, safety, and reliability.

1. Transportation:
CPS can be used to improve the transportation system in a smart city.
Intelligent transportation systems can be used to manage traffic flow,
reduce congestion, and improve safety. In the future, we'll travel
in driverless cars that communicate securely with each other on smart
roads and in planes that coordinate to reduce delays. In transportation,
CPS can improve safety and efficiency through intelligent traffic
management systems, vehicle-to-vehicle communications, and self-driving
vehicles. For example, a smart traffic management system can use real-
time data to optimize traffic signals and reduce travel time.
2. Energy:
CPS can also be used to improve the energy efficiency of a smart city. Smart
grids can be used to optimize energy distribution and reduce energy waste.
Homes and offices will be powered by a smart grid that is user-aware and
will use sensors to analyze the environment and optimize lighting, heating
and cooling. For example a smart grid can use real-time data to identify
energy usage patterns and adjust energy distribution accordingly.

3. Healthcare:
CPS can also be used to improve healthcare in a smart city. Telemedicine
and Telehealth systems can be used to provide remote medical
consultations and improve access to healthcare services. Cyber-physical
systems are poised to transform the delivery of health care enabling smart
medical treatments and services. CPS systems have the technology which
involves the use of connected medical devices and wearables to monitor
patients’ health data . For example, a smart healthcare system can use real-
time data to monitor the health of patients and alert healthcare providers
in case of any emergencies.

4. Security:
CPS can also be used to improve the security of a smart city. Intelligent
surveillance systems can be used to monitor public spaces and identify
potential security threats. For example, a smart security system can use
real-time data to detect suspicious behavior and alert law enforcement
agencies.

5. Environment and sustainability:

Cyber-physical systems are increasingly used to promote
sustainability. Cyber-physical systems are helping firefighters detect and
deter fires, improving agricultural practices and enabling scientists
to mitigate underwater oil spills. Advances in cyber-physical systems will
enable capability, adaptability, scalability, resiliency, safety, security and
usability that will far exceed the simple embedded systems of today.
6. Civil Infrastructure:
Cyber-physical systems are using infrastructure improvement with some
new efficiency technology. Advanced digital technology like IoT and
sensors etc.

7. Manufacturing:
In manufacturing CPS can monitor and control the production process in
real-time, improving quality and reducing scrap.

8. Agriculture:
Through the cps systems we can develop such kinds of sensors and
tractors or harvesters that provide information on soil type and condition.

Conclusion:
Cyber-Physical Systems(CPS) play a crucial role in the development and
implementation of a smart city. CPS can be used to improve the efficiency and
effectiveness of various systems such as transportation, energy, healthcare,
security, agriculture and others. The integration of CPS in a smart city can help to
create a more connected, efficient, and sustainable urban environmental for its
citizens. It’s essential to ensure that these systems are secure and reliable, with
proper privacy protection measures, to ensure the safety and well-being of
citizens.
