6 Design verification
6.1 Construction
The verification of the resistance to corrosion is done in conformity with IEC 61439-6, clause
10.2.2.2, severity test A.
Result: Pass
6.1.2 Verification of the resistance of insulating materials to abnormal heat and fire
The verification of the resistance of insulating materials to abnormal heat and fire is done in conformity
with IEC 61439-6, clause 10.2.3.2.
The glow-wire test was done on all insulating materials, in line with IEC 60695-2-10 and
IEC 60695-2-11. Insulating materials retaining current-carrying parts in position were tested at a
temperature of 960 °C. Other insulating materials were tested at a temperature of 650 °C. The
duration of the tests was each time 30 seconds. The tip of the glow-wire was both times applied at a
place where the section is thinnest and not less than 15 mm from the upper edge of the specimen.
See Table 1 for the tested materials and their test results.
Result: Pass
The mechanical impact test is performed in conformity with IEC 61439-6, clause 10.2.6 and
IEC 62262.
This test was performed on the representative sample of 800 A BTS (for detail of this BTS, refer to test
report 2274961.05-INC). This BTS has the widest construction and is deemed to cover all other BTS in
the range from 160 A to 800 A.
The test equipment consists of a test hammer as described in IEC 60068-2-75 suitable for the
dimensions of the enclosure. The sample was placed on a rigid support as for normal use. For all tests
an impact energy of 20 J corresponding to an IK10 rating was applied. The impact energy was
achieved with a 20 J impact hammer of 5 kg from a height of 400 mm. The impacts were applied with
even distribution over the faces of the enclosure:
five times to each exposed surface in normal use whose largest dimension is greater than 1 m.
After the test, the busbar trunking continued to provide the IP code and dielectric strength.
Result: Pass
6.1.4 Marking
The verification of the marking is done in conformity with IEC 61439-6, clause 10.2.7.
The marking was rubbed by hand for 15 s with a piece of cloth soaked in water and then for 15 s with
a piece of cloth soaked with petroleum spirit.
After the test the marking was legible to normal or corrected vision without additional magnification.
Result: Pass

TEST REPORT 2274961.05-INC Page 9 of 52
The verification of the ability to withstand mechanical loads is done in conformity with IEC 61439-6,
clause 10.2.101.
Test sample: 160 A BTS with phase bar size 20 x 6,35 mm,
3-phase bar + enclosure PE
The masses used for test: 800 A BTS with phase bar size 95 x 6,35 mm,
3-phase + 200% N bar + 100% PE bar connected to enclosure
By using the smallest type as test sample with the masses of the largest type, only one test is required
to cover all BTS which have phase bars size within this bar size range because all these BTS have the
same construction and materials.
The test was performed on one straight trunking unit. A force equal to mass M was placed on the
middle between two supports via a square rigid piece with sides equal to the width of the trunking
system. The test object was placed horizontally. Both flatwise and edgewise were tested. The distance
between two supports is D = 1,5 m.
There was no deformation of the trunking system. The requirements of verification by a power
frequency voltage of 2200 V are met.
Result: Pass
The test was performed on two straight trunking units connected with a joint. Supports are placed on
both sides of the joint. A force equal to mass M1 was placed on the joint via a square rigid piece with
sides equal to the width of the trunking system. The test object was placed horizontally. Both flatwise
and edgewise were tested. The distance between the supports is D = 1,5 m.
Total mass to be placed = 12,8 x 1,5 + 9 + 3,2 + 20 = 51,4 kg (tested with 60 kg)
There was no deformation of the trunking system. The requirements of verification by a power
frequency voltage of 2200 V are met.
Result: Pass
DEKRA
TEST REPORT 2274961.05-INC Page 10 of 52

The test is carried out on a representative sample of 800 A BTS (phase bar size 95 x 6,35 mm, 3-
phase + 200% N bar + 100% PE bar connected to enclosure). The tests are deemed to cover all BTS
variants as given on page 4 because the enclosure of the BTS have the same construction and
material. The sample consists straight length + joint + straight length.
The wire did not enter the enclosure and adequate clearance to hazardous parts was kept.
Result: Pass
DEKRA
TEST REPORT 2274961.05-INC Page 11 of 52

6.1.8.1 Effective earth continuity between the exposed conductive parts of the assembly
and the protective circuit
The verification of the effectiveness of the earth continuity by test is done in conformity with
IEC 61439-2, clause 10.5.2.
The effectiveness of the protective circuit has been verified by measuring the voltage drop from the PE
terminal to several points of the assembly. This measurement is done by injecting a DC-current of
10 A at several points of the assembly. Subsequently the resistance is calculated.
All of the resistances are below the maximum allowed 100 mΩ, measured maximum is 17 mΩ.
Result: Pass
The verification of the short circuit strength of the protective circuit by test is done in conformity with
IEC 61439-6, clause 10.5.3.5.
The tests were performed on the 400 A BTS with smaller busbar, which are deemed to cover the 800 A
BTS with bigger busbar because they have the same construction and material. The test data are
taken over from test report 2274961.03-INC.
The BTS variants “3-phase bar + enclosure used as PE” and “3-phase bar + 50% PE bar connected
to enclosure used as PE” were selected for the tests. The tests are deemed to cover all other variants
as given on page 4.
Details of the testing of the short-circuit withstand strength are given on sheets 1 and 2 in Appendix C.
The appendix also shows photos and oscillograms of the short circuit tests.
From data stated in Appendix C can be concluded that the short-circuit withstand strength of the
protective circuit complies with the specified values as given on page 3.
Schedule of tests:

Clause Requirement + Test Result - Remark Verdict
8.6 Internal electrical circuits and connections P
8.6.1 Main circuits P
The busbars (bare or insulated) are arranged in P
such a manner that an internal short-circuit is not to
be expected.
They are rated at least in accordance with the P
information concerning the short-circuit withstand
strength (see 9.3) and designed to withstand at least
the short-circuit stresses limited by the protective
device(s) on the supply side of the busbars.
Within one section, the conductors (including P
distribution busbars) between the main busbars and
the supply side of functional units as well as the
components included in these units may be rated on
the basis of the reduced short-circuit stresses
occurring on the load side of the respective short-
circuit protective device within each unit, provided
that these conductors are arranged so that under
normal operation an internal short-circuit between
phases and/or between phases and earth is not to
be expected (see 8.6.4).
Unless otherwise agreed between the BTS P
manufacturer and the user, the minimum cross-
sectional area of the neutral within a three phase
and neutral circuit is:
- For circuits with a phase conductor cross-sectional N/A
area up to and including 16 mm2, 100% of that of
the corresponding phases.
- For circuits with a phase conductor cross-sectional 100% of phase bar P
area above 16 mm², 50% of that of the
2
corresponding phases with a minimum of 16 mm .
It is assumed that the neutral currents do not exceed P
50% of the phase currents.
8.6.2 Auxiliary circuits N/A
The design of the auxiliary circuits takes into N/A
account the supply earthing system and ensures
that an earth-fault or a fault between a live part and
an exposed conductive part does not cause
unintentional dangerous operation.
In general, auxiliary circuits are protected against N/A
the effects of short circuits.
