clause 10.2.101.

Test sample: 160 A BTS with phase bar size 20 x 6,35 mm,
3-phase bar + enclosure PE
The masses used for test: 800 A BTS with phase bar size 95 x 6,35 mm,
3-phase + 200% N bar + 100% PE bar connected to enclosure

By using the smallest type as test sample with the masses of the largest type, only one test is required
to cover all BTS which have phase bars size within this bar size range because all these BTS have the
same construction and materials.

6.1.5.1 Test procedure for a straight busbar trunking unit

The test was performed on one straight trunking unit. A force equal to mass M was placed on the
middle between two supports via a square rigid piece with sides equal to the width of the trunking
system. The test object was placed horizontally. Both flatwise and edgewise were tested. The distance
between two supports is D = 1,5 m.

The mass M consists of:

1 Mass of trunking system: 12,8 kg/m
2 Feeder: 9 kg
3 Tap-off unit: 20 kg

Total mass to be placed = 12,8 x 1,5 + 9 + 20 = 48,2 kg (tested with 60 kg)

The duration of the force was 5 minutes.

There was no deformation of the trunking system. The requirements of verification by a power
frequency voltage of 2200 V are met.

Result: Pass

6.1.5.2 Test procedure for a joint

The test was performed on two straight trunking units connected with a joint. Supports are placed on
both sides of the joint. A force equal to mass M1 was placed on the joint via a square rigid piece with
sides equal to the width of the trunking system. The test object was placed horizontally. Both flatwise
and edgewise were tested. The distance between the supports is D = 1,5 m.

The mass M1 consists of:

1 Mass of trunking system: 12,8 kg/m
2 Feeder: 9 kg
3 Joint: 3,2 kg
4 Tap-off unit: 20 kg

Total mass to be placed = 12,8 x 1,5 + 9 + 3,2 + 20 = 51,4 kg (tested with 60 kg)

The duration of the force was 5 minutes.

There was no deformation of the trunking system. The requirements of verification by a power
frequency voltage of 2200 V are met.

Result: Pass
DEKRA
TEST REPORT 2274961.05-INC Page 10 of 52

6.1.5.3 Resistance of enclosure to crushing

The test is performed on a straight trunking of 3 meters.

A mass equal to 4 times the weight of 1 m length was placed on the joint via a square rigid piece with
sides equal to the width of the trunking system. The test object was placed horizontally on a flat
surface. Both flatwise and edgewise were tested.

The mass consists of:

1. 4 times the linear mass of the unit: 4 x 12,8 kg/m

Total mass to be placed = 51,2 kg (tested with 60 kg)

The force was applied at four points along the straight length unit.

The duration of the force was 5 minutes.

Result: There was no deformation of the trunking system. The requirements of verification by a power
frequency voltage of 2200 V are met.

Result: Pass

6.2.2 Verification of temperature-rise

6.2.2.1 Test of a BT run

The verification of the temperature-rise is done in conformity with IEC 61439-6, Clause 10.10.2.3.5.

The BTS variant “3-phase bar + enclosure used as PE” was selected for the tests. The tests are
deemed to cover all other variants as given on page 4.

The object under test consists of a flange + joint + straight length + joint + straight length.
The total length of the busbar trunking system is 6,5 m and placed horizontally (edgewise) on supports
approx. 1 m from the floor.

The 60 Hz current source was connected by 3 m long copper busbars of 95 x 6,35 mm to the supply
connection of the flange. Per phase 1 busbar was connected. This dimension was in accordance with
the manufacturer’s instructions. The assembly was loaded with 800 A.

The starpoint was mounted directly on the end of last straight length.

The temperature-rises were measured by means of thermocouples, including the ambient

temperature. The current in each phase is kept constant until thermal equilibrium is reached.

Details of the temperature-rise verification are given in Appendix B.

The tables in the appendix give the recorded temperature-rise values at steady state. The values do
not exceed the maximum allowed temperature-rise limits.

Result: Pass

6.2.3 Short-circuit withstand strength

The verification of the short-circuit withstand strength by test is done in conformity with IEC 61439-6,
clause 10.11.

The tests were performed on the 400 A BTS with smaller busbar, which are deemed to cover the 800 A
BTS with bigger busbar because they have the same construction and material. The test data are
taken over from test report 2274961.03-INC.

The BTS variant “3-phase bar + enclosure used as PE” was selected for the tests. The tests are
deemed to cover all other variants as given on page 4.

6.2.6 Phase conductor and fault-loop characteristics

The verification of the phase conductor characteristics (clause 5.101) by test is done in conformity with
IEC 61439-6, Annex BB.

6.2.6.1 Phase conductor characteristics

The verification of the phase conductor characteristics by test is done in conformity with IEC 61439-6,
Annex BB.

The test setup consists of a flange and two straight lengths connected to each other by means of
joints. The determination of the resistance, reactance and impedance values of the system at the rated
current are measured at a steady state temperature at the end of the temperature rise test.
The powerloss of the trunking system is measured using the two Watt-meter method. It is derived from
the recorded currents and voltages. After that the average r.m.s. phase-to-phase voltage drop and
average r.m.s. current are recorded.

Notes regarding the characteristics:

 Zθ and Rθ are values at temperature rise test conditions at ambient temperature θ.
 R20 and Z20 are values when BTS is not operating and conductor temperature of 20 °C.
 Z and R are values when BTS is operating at Inc and ambient air temperature of 35 °C.
 X is independent from the temperature.

Appendix E Compliance with design requirements

Compliance declared by the manufacturer.

IEC 61439-6
Clause Requirement + Test Result - Remark Verdict
8.6 Internal electrical circuits and connections P
8.6.1 Main circuits P
The busbars (bare or insulated) are arranged in P
such a manner that an internal short-circuit is not to
be expected.
They are rated at least in accordance with the P
information concerning the short-circuit withstand
strength (see 9.3) and designed to withstand at least
the short-circuit stresses limited by the protective
device(s) on the supply side of the busbars.
Within one section, the conductors (including P
distribution busbars) between the main busbars and
the supply side of functional units as well as the
components included in these units may be rated on
the basis of the reduced short-circuit stresses
occurring on the load side of the respective short-
circuit protective device within each unit, provided
that these conductors are arranged so that under
normal operation an internal short-circuit between
phases and/or between phases and earth is not to
be expected (see 8.6.4).
Unless otherwise agreed between the BTS P
manufacturer and the user, the minimum cross-
sectional area of the neutral within a three phase
and neutral circuit is:
- For circuits with a phase conductor cross-sectional N/A
area up to and including 16 mm2, 100% of that of
the corresponding phases.
- For circuits with a phase conductor cross-sectional 100% of phase bar P
area above 16 mm², 50% of that of the
2
corresponding phases with a minimum of 16 mm .
It is assumed that the neutral currents do not exceed P
50% of the phase currents.
8.6.2 Auxiliary circuits N/A
The design of the auxiliary circuits takes into N/A
account the supply earthing system and ensures
that an earth-fault or a fault between a live part and
an exposed conductive part does not cause
unintentional dangerous operation.
In general, auxiliary circuits are protected against N/A
the effects of short circuits.
DEKRA
TEST REPORT 2274961.05-INC Page 49 of 52

However, a short-circuit protective device is not N/A

provided if its operation is liable to cause a danger.
In such a case, the conductors of auxiliary circuits
are arranged in such a manner that a short-circuit is
not to be expected (see 8.6.4).
8.6.3 Bare and insulated conductors P
The connections of current-carrying parts do not P
suffer undue alteration as a result of normal
temperature rise, ageing of the insulating materials
and vibrations occurring in normal operation.
The effects of thermal expansion and of the P
electrolytic action in the case of dissimilar metals,
and the effects of the endurance of the materials to
the temperatures attained, are taken into
consideration
Connections between current-carrying parts are P
established by means that ensure a sufficient and
durable contact pressure.
If verification of temperature rise is carried out on the N/A
basis of tests (see 10.10.2) the selection of
conductors and their cross-sections used inside the
BTS is the responsibility of the BTS manufacturer.
If verification of temperature rise is made following N/A
the rules of 10.10.3, the conductors have a minimum
cross-section according to
IEC 60364-5-52. Examples on how to adapt this
standard for conditions inside an BTS are given in
the tables included in Annex H.
In the case of insulated solid or flexible conductors: N/A
– They are rated for at least the rated insulation N/A
voltage (see 5.2.3) of the circuit concerned.
– Conductors connecting two termination points N/A
have no intermediate joint, e.g. spliced or soldered.
– Conductors with only basic insulation are N/A
prevented from coming into contact with bare live
parts at different potentials.
– Contact of conductors with sharp edges are N/A
prevented.
- Supply conductors to apparatus and measuring N/A
instruments in covers or doors are so installed that
no mechanical damage can occur to the
conductors as a result of movement of these
covers or doors.
– Soldered connections to apparatus are permitted N/A
in BTS only in cases where provision is made for
this type of connection on the apparatus and the
specified type of conductor is used.
DEKRA
TEST REPORT 2274961.05-INC Page 50 of 52

- For apparatus other than those mentioned above, N/A

soldering cable lugs or soldered ends of stranded
conductors are not acceptable under conditions of
heavy vibration. In locations where heavy vibrations
exist during normal operation, for example in the
case of dredger and crane operation, operation on
board ships, lifting equipment and locomotives,
attention is given to the support of conductors.
– Generally only one conductor is connected to a N/A
terminal; the connection of two or more conductors
to one terminal is permissible only in those cases
where the terminals are designed for this purpose.
The dimensioning of solid insulation between N/A
separate circuits are based on the circuit of highest
rated insulation voltage.
8.6.4 Selection and installation of non-protected live conductors to reduce the N/A
possibility of short-circuits
Live conductors in an BTS that are not protected by N/A
short-circuit protective devices (see 8.6.1 and 8.6.2)
are selected and installed throughout the entire BTS
in such a manner that an internal short-circuit
between phases or between phase and earth is a
remote possibility. See Table 4.
Non-protected live conductors selected and installed N/A
as in Table 4 and having a SCPD on the load side
do not exceed 3 m in length.
8.6.5 Identification of the conductors of main and auxiliary circuits N/A
With the exception of the cases mentioned in 8.6.6, N/A
the method and the extent of identification of
conductors, for example by arrangement, colours or
symbols, on the terminals to which they are
connected or on the end(s) of the conductors
themselves, is the responsibility of the BTS
manufacturer and is in agreement with the
indications on the wiring diagrams and drawings.
Where appropriate, identification according to IEC N/A
60445 and IEC 60446 are applied
8.6.6 Identification of the protective conductor (PE, PEN) and of the neutral P
conductor (N) of the main circuits
The protective conductor is readily distinguishable P
by location and/or marking or colour.
If identification by colour is used, it is only green and N/A
yellow (twin-coloured), which is strictly reserved for
the protective conductor.
When the protective conductor is an insulated N/A
single-core cable, this colour identification is used,

Any neutral conductor of the main circuit is readily P

distinguishable by location and/or marking or colour.
If identification by colour only is used, it is blue (see
IEC 60446).
8.6.101 Correct connection between BTS units P
BTUs are designed as to ensure correct connection P
between the conductors of adjacent units forming a
BTS (power circuits, auxiliary and communication
circuits, PE…). This requirement may be achieved
by proper identification of each connection.
BTUs and tap-off units are designed as to ensure N/A
correct connection between their conductors (power
circuits, auxiliary and communication circuits, PE…).
This requirement is achieved by insertion interlocks
(see 3.2.5 of Part 1).
8.8 Terminals for external conductors P
The BTS manufacturer indicates whether the P
terminals are suitable for connection of copper or
aluminium conductors, or both.
The terminals are such that the external conductors P
may be connected by a means (screws, connectors,
etc.) which ensures that the necessary contact
pressure corresponding to the current rating and the
short-circuit strength of the apparatus and the circuit
is maintained.
In the absence of a special agreement between the P
BTS manufacturer and the user, terminals are
capable of accommodating copper conductors from
the smallest to the largest cross-sectional areas
corresponding to the appropriate rated current (see
Annex A).
Where aluminium conductors are to be terminated, N/A
the type, size and termination method of the
conductors are as agreed between the BTS
manufacturer and the user.
In the case where external conductors for electronic N/A
circuits with low level currents and voltages (less
than 1 A and less than 50 V a.c. or 120 V d.c.) have
to be connected to an BTS, Table A.1 does not
apply.
The available wiring space permits proper P
connection of the external conductors of the
indicated material and, in the case of multicore
cables, spreading of the cores.
The conductors are not subjected to stresses P
Unless otherwise agreed between the BTS P
manufacturer and the user, on three-phase and
neutral circuits, terminals for the neutral conductor
allow the connection of copper conductors having a
current-carrying capacity:

– equal to half the current-carrying capacity of the 100% of phase conductor P

phase conductor, with a minimum of 16 mm2, if the
size of the phase conductor exceeds 16 mm2;
– equal to the full current-carrying capacity of the N/A
phase conductor, if the size of the latter is less than
or equal to 16 mm2.
If connecting facilities for incoming and outgoing PE P
neutral, protective and PEN conductors are
provided; they are arranged in the vicinity of the
associated phase conductor terminals.
Openings in cable entries, cover plates, etc., are so N/A
designed that, when the cables are properly
installed, the stated protective measures against
contact and degree of protection are obtained.
The terminals for external protective conductors are P
marked according to IEC 60445.
The terminals for external protective conductors PE P
(PE, PEN) and metal sheathing of connecting
cables (steel conduit, lead sheath, etc.) are, where
required, bare and, unless otherwise specified,
suitable for the connection of copper conductors.
A separate terminal of adequate size is provided for P
the outgoing protective conductor(s) of each circuit.
Unless otherwise agreed between the BTS Same as phase terminal P
manufacturer and the user, terminals for protective
conductors allow the connection of copper
conductors having a cross-section depending on the
cross-section of the corresponding phase
conductors according to Table 5.
In the case of enclosures and conductors of Aluminium alloy P
aluminium or aluminium alloys, particular Electrostatic spraying
consideration are given to the danger of electrolytic paint for aluminium alloy
corrosion. enclosure
