IV. Project Status Summary

The BSE III-English Seminar-Workshop on Journalistic Writing and Page Make-Up has

accomplished 25% of its activities toward the completion of the project and the team is working

on the realization of the remaining 75% through meeting discussions and reports. The project

commenced on May 01, 2023, covering two journalistic topics: news and sports writing. There

were minor issues encountered during the first day such as audio-visual system failure and

tardiness and nonparticipation of the students.

In terms of the cost breakdown, a total of Php 14, 975.00 or 30% of the fund has been

allocated for the first day of the event. The money was used for (1) learning materials and meals

for the participants which were distributed to them on the same day, (2) the professional fee of the

resource speaker, and (3) office supplies that included a ream of bond paper and four certificate

holders for the printing of the certificates for the speakers. Meanwhile, the remaining fund

amounting to Php 34, 250.00 or 70% of the fund will be allotted to the activities for May 02–04

covering the following topics: feature and sci-tech writing, editorial writing and cartooning, and

photojournalism and lay-outing.

Despite the unexpected challenges experienced on May 01, the topics were successfully

discussed with the participants in which Dr. Lito D. Lapid served as the resource speaker. The

learning materials distributed to the participants will be used throughout the event. As an

appreciation to the participants, they will receive a certificate of participation upon completion of

the project. With hindsight, the event organizers plan to ensure a smoother flow of the program

and make it more interactive and engaging in the succeeding days.

V. General information on schedule, cost, and expected completion date

The project commenced on May 01, 2023 and will be completed on May 04, 2023. There are

certain journalistic topics and skills to be discussed and developed each day. The project will cost

Php 27, 475.00 for the learning materials, professional fee, office supplies, and contingency fund,

and Php 21, 750.00 for meals, a total of Php 49, 225.00, for the implementation of the project.

PROJECT STATUS

I. Work Completed

A. Introduction

Due to some tardy participants, the program started at 9:00 in the morning which was supposed to be

8:30. The person assigned to the ice breaker held an activity entitled, “Pass the Cabbage Paper” and it

conditioned the mood of the participants, although the team had observed a few not participative students.

Afterward, the technical team needed to prepare the presentations of the resource speaker but encountered

trouble with playing the sound system and sharing the PowerPoint presentation on the screen.

Eventually, the technical team discovered the problem and fixed the audio-visual system as immediately

as they could. Before the discussion, the event organizers distributed the learning materials to the students

which they will be using throughout the four-day seminar-workshop. Dr. Lito D. Lapid, resource speaker,

proceeded with his discussion on news writing for the morning session while sharing some of his experiences

as a campus journalist before.

During the discussion, the media committee took the time to layout and print the certificates of

recognition for the resources speakers from first to fourth day of the seminar-workshop. After discussing the

topic, Dr. Lapid tasked the participants to write a news article about the seminar-workshop on journalistic

writing and page make-up. The works of the students were submitted to Dr. Lapid for the critiquing of

outputs.

The participants had their lunch at 12 – 1 p.m. The afternoon session started with another ice breaker and

the resource speaker talked about sports writing. After the discussion, the participants were tasked to write

sports articles and their works were given feedback at the end of the activity. The team awarded the

certificate of recognition with the professional fee to Dr. Lito D. Lapid before officially closing the program.

RECOMMENDATIONS

I. Schedule

II. Resources (Human and Material)

Evaluation

III. Delivery date for the necessary machinery, tools, materials, etc.

The recommendations for this progress report are the venue, the snacks or foods, the copies of the guests, the

time, and the materials and equipment. As for the recommendation for the venue, first, we are hoping to

expand or find some venue that is cozy to have a meeting. Second, ask them for snacks or foods that

wouldn’t cause them harm. Then the soft copies or hard copies for the guests are available for them to cope

with the reports. Then, materials and equipment should be ready before the guests arrive. Lastly, the exact

time wherein the reports stated in the copies for them to not keep on waiting for a long time.

I. The schedule of meetings should be applicable to all, free from workloads or free time. The

schedule would be great if it was scheduled by weekends. The schedule should maintain the order

or sequence for them to be able to retain the information and lectures and

II. Resources should arrive before the meeting is conducted. People should be notified and prepared

before the meeting. Also, the certificates of the people who are joining the meeting will be given

after.
