Instructional Software Lesson Idea
☒ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the teacher's
direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly practice based.
☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of learning
and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates the learning as
the students direct their own learning processes.
☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing authentic/real-world
projects to demonstrate their learning and publish results outside of the classroom. (Note: This objective
could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the
classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.)
How will you connect this topic to students’ prior knowledge as you teach?
Teacher will have taught students about solar system, this game will be a way to practice &
measure that info.
Managing the technology: Co-engagement. This is a trivia game where students will be competing
against each other to get the highest score. Their score increases by answering questions correctly
& playing the game.
Lesson idea implementation:
I will plan a classroom competition game using this activity. The game automatically grades
students answers after every question. The questions repeat several times throughout the game
so they should be able to get almost all if not all of the questions correct during the final round of
the game. The teacher will play 2-3 games and each game will be a “round.”
The teacher will ask student which version of the game they want to play (Café, Factory, Tower
Defense, Etc). This could be different for every round. Teacher will use the “host a game” function
and allow students to log in using the join a game code. Students will compete against each other
and gain points by getting questions correct. Students with the highest scores will get a piece of
candy or another type of reward.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection:
I feel like Blooklet is a lot like Kahoot, and I remember really loving Kahoot but it being a little bit
repetitive. I think that students will love playing Blooklet and will be really engaged in their
learning because of the game aspect of it. For example, in the café game, players have to get
questions right to restock their food and feed their customers. So, if students want to have a
successful café and will the game, they have to get questions right. I personally had a lot of fun
playing this game so I believe students would be engaged and entertained by it.
My goal for the standard was to make sure students could get feedback to evaluate and correct
their answers, and Blooklet gives automatic feedback after every question. The questions also
repeat several times throughout the game, so students will be able to correct them after getting
them incorrect. This will ensure their memorization of the correct answer.
