ARMY AIR FORCES

Rupert Peter Brzica, 102, of Sarasota, Fl., formerly of Sioux Falls, SD., died Dec.
22, 2010. He and his wife Molly retired to Longboat Key, Florida, in 1979 where
they resided until moving to Plymouth Harbor.

He was preceded in death by his parents Matthew & Mary Brzica of Terry, S. D., two
sisters, Ann Kristivic, Mary Quaerna and two brothers, Paul Brzica and Dr. Stephen
Brzica.

In 1953 Pete and his brother moved from Rapid City to Sioux Falls where they
founded SoDak Distributing Co. Paul died in 1962 at the age of 49. Pete served on
the Board of the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce where he was an active member of
the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, served as Treasurer of the USS
Battleship South Dakota Committee at the time the Memorial was founded. In 1958 he
was Western Wing Commander of South Dakota Civil Air Patrol. He received an
appointment to serve as Civilian Aid to Secretary of the Army in 1970. He remained
involved with military projects throughout his lifetime, belonging to the American
Legion And Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Pete is fondly remembered for his strong faith in Christ, his generosity and
positive outlook on life. Retired, Pete continued to serve the community where he
lived. He belonged to Kiwanis Club on Longboat Key and devoted time to the
Scholarship Foundation, Meals on Wheels, volunteered at Sarasota Memorial Hospital
where he directed the Scholarship Foundation until he retired. Pete was a generous
supporter of Community Haven for Adults and Children with Disabilities. He will be
remembered for his tireless efforts in helping the handicapped make a meaningful
contribution to the community through service to others.

In memory of their parents in 1962 Pete and Paul established the Matthew P. and
Mary Brzica Scholarship Foundation at the University of South Dakota Medical
School. In gratitude, the family will carry on his legacy remembering a dedicated
husband, father and friend. He will be greatly missed and loved forever.
