Master Programme in Medical Informatics, University of Porto

EFMI ACCREDITATION

Good afternoon, everyone. Thanks for inviting me to give my contribution. My Name is Rui
Gomes, the Head of Information Systems in a University Hospital of Coimbra.
First of all, I would like to congratulate all those who have worked for this master's reached
the actual level of maturity. Excellent work to all the ones who contributed for the success.
Coordinators, professors and students.
I presented my thesis in 2010 (12 years ago), on a topic that nowadays and every day is
more relevant. One of the first Portuguese Thesis about the Governance of Information
Security.
From the beginning I want to give a tribute to the supervisor at the time Prof. Luis Antunes
and Prof. Luis Lapão with a great contribution from Prof. Altamiro and Prof. Ricardo Correia.
I think this Master Programme crossed the times (and perhaps the wills and the Hills) and
become stronger all over the years.
Lets be honest. There’s nothing else like this in Portugal.
I am entirely convinced that during these years this master's has given a great reputation
not only to the Medical School and SBIM but to the Market itself.
In my opinion, and I don’t want to amplify. I want to be honest. Most of the people trained
in this master's degree are precious and we need more. Mainly in the Health Public Sector.
Because I suppose it is the only master degree in the area, that is carried out in a medical
school. People that come out can face, without PANIC, activities on IT healthcare.
I DON’T KNOW IF YOU ARE AWARE, I would like to emphasize the difficulty to hire any kind
of professionals to the public sector. So, more difficult as been be to get this master degree
professionals. I wish I could employ data specialists, digital leaders, from this graduation
expertise.
I really WISH THE BEST OF LUCK FOR THIS WORK, AND I am really moved and proud of the
work that this team has done. NICE JOB!
